Hi,
I posted a couple of months ago that the Guitar Group that I run for our local U3a had been invited to do a spot at the U3a National AGM and Conference dinner; I was concerned about sound and got some helpful advice from you guys.
Anyway it was last night. Since posting originally there were 2 developments; we were informed 2 weeks earlier that the other 'act' had withdrawn so could we do the whole spot. And that the anticipated audience of around 300 had grown to 450!!!
Nevertheless my people (12 of our group) excelled themselves with 14 numbers and 2 encores and cries for more (at least I think it was 'more'); which we couldn't do as that's all we knew!. Yes, there were mistakes; we don't pretend to be experts and many had never touched the guitar a couple of years ago; last night was an experience they will not forget in a hurry!
We did have some difficulty with the sound system despite having the conference venue's sound technician there; the speakers were built into the roof into the banqueting area of the room at various places but all quite a bit in front of us on the stage so, although the audience heard us, we had some difficulty hearing each other as we were well spread out; and also hearing the audience. But with a bit of mime and lip reading it worked out OK.
Everyone left on a high! I was knackered!

Excellent, John. More power to your elbow (and fretting hand and picking hand). What a brilliant accolade to be asked, and even more to be asked for encores!
