Apologies if this is a repeated topic( point me in the right direction if so!). What's the best travel guitar top, mid, bottom ranges. I'm seriously looking at getting on which will fit in the overhead lockers rather than take the chance of checking one into hold baggage. In anticipation...............

I have a Brunner guitar (http://brunner-guitars.com/en/home) which sounds fantastic. It comes with a backpack and fits together in about a minute - amazing thing.

At the lower end of the price range the Vintage Paul Brett Viator is an excellent option. Mark

There's a travel guitar made by Furch called the Little Jane which gets good reviews. Neck off, backpack idea.

I've got a Vintage Viator for camping and holidays. It's perfectly fine but you have to revise down your expectations if you are used to playing higher end guitars at home. The neck seems very comfortable, but whilst I like small bodied guitars, the 'travel' strand does push the boundaries of what I deem to be acceptable in terms of comfort and sound. I'm about to restring it with some Newtones as the factory strings are something sticky and squeaky that I don't really get on with. I'll be using it a lot in the next week as I'm off up to Skye so will have chance to get better acquainted with it than I have so far. I'm sure there are better quality options out there, but the size of a travel guitar will always lead to compromises in comfort and sound and, for me, the point was to get something that I didn't mind getting thrown about.

The acoustic looks interesting, retails about £200. Thoughts?

I haven't played a lot of travel guitars, but I did try a few Baby Taylors a while ago. I wasn't keen on the ones with spruce tops, but I thought the all mahogany ones were quite nice.
At the high end, Brook have a few travel-size models in their range. All of the smaller-bodied Brooks I've played have been excellent.

I think the Snapdragon you've linked to sounds and looks very good. Price seems alright as well. I have one of those crappy spruce topped Baby Taylors that Simon hates It does alright, but it's the only smaller guitar I have.

I've emailed Snapdragon, their factory/workshop is in Essex just across the bridge from me, I've a look around and try out a week on Wednesday, it may well be a NGD!

Went to visit Snapdragon at their small workshop in Ongar,Essex today. Gerry ( the designer and brains behind the outfit) Matt ( guitar technician/builder) and the bloke whose name I can't remember couldn't have been more welcoming! All were very approachable and happy to answer any questions we posed. They even made us a brew! I was principally there to see the Snapdragon Mini traXe acoustic. I wasn't disappointed, the guitar was set up very well, still can't get over the folding neck design! I was a little skeptical, however the guitar plays and sounds great for such a small (and plastic) body. The front is bamboo grass?!! Pick up is manufactured to their own specs in China. Gerry sources most of everything else from the UK. Needless to say I've come away having purchased one. They retail at £190 with the expandable cabin bag £25. The guitar itself plays well both acoustically and when plugged in. For such a small guitar it gives I think a generous sound, the action is good also. Pictures to follow, but as you can tell I'm impressed with it and the folding neck! I would say that if you're pretty local give them a bell/email and organise a visit, they couldn't be more amiable.
