Hi. Just today I part exed an Eggle for a Lowden F35 Amazique which is fitted with a fish man rare earth blend. It's my first experience with this pickup and I am actually impressed. Just adding a touch of mic to the rare earth hum bucker gives a nice bit of air.

I've not tried a Rare Earth (being a skinflint!) but I do find that a pick up system that has a blend mic option is generally of benefit. It can at least edge the possibility of getting a good sound towards a good sound that also better resembles the real guitars sound. Mark

Mark It depends what you are doing and I suspect is a little psychological! I can get a good sound out of mine without a mic, one way or another. Audiences don't see to notice the guitar that much. Whenever I'm obsessing with pickup sound I'm usually obsessing about it for myself! SaveSave

I've had Headway, Highlander and Baggs undersaddles in the reasonably recent past, as well as a number of rare Earths - single coil, humbucker and blend. My Fylde has a Rare Earth Humbucker and both the Lowden L32 and Avalon have the Rare Earth blend in and I haven't heard anything that sounds better. My last one was from eBay and just over a hundred quid. they are easily removable (i'v moved them between guitars I've sold) but I've installed them permanently in all my guitars. (I've become a dab hand at installing endpin jacks with an old guitar string!)
anyway - highly, highly recommended for the Lowden - works well with the O body size and no issues with the split saddle.

I've had a similar experience as Scorpiodog with the Fishman Rare Earth blend, though for me, even a touch of the mic caused no end of feedback. The only way I could use it without feedback was to keep the mic completely off, which defeats the purpose of the blend. I always play dreadnoughts, so whether this had anything to do with it, I don't know. It was very frustrating, and I replaced it with a K&K.
I am lucky that the sound of the K&K suits my style. I use a Redeye preamp, which is I believe essentially the same as an Orchid but made in the US rather than the UK. Without the preamp the K&K still sounds ok, but with it, the sound gets close to using a mic.
