I've got a pupil who wants to start on something in DADGAD. Is there a website with some simple pieces in TAB? Just a melody with a few bass notes, really nothing complicated.
Thanks. He's been playing some Michael Raven tunes: "Blore Heath March", "Blore Heath Jig" in standard tuning and I'd like to help him think outside the box a little, early days though.

Jonny, What about Mark T's arrangement of "Leaving Stoer" - pretty much melody with a few bass notes. Or "Roslin Castle" if you take the high string twiddly bit out (like I do )

I agree with Dave. Mark T's book has several excellent tunes accessible to beginners (like me!).

I'll happily third that motion. Mr Thomson's arrangements make even guitar no-hopers like me believe they have a chance at playing some beautiful and effective pieces, even fooling friends and family into thinking we have talent

Thanks - but they are beyond him I'm afraid. looking for something with mostly open strings, all fretted notes in the first position, 4/4. I can write something for him, but if there was a resource already out there, I'd use that.

Johnny let me see if I have something suitable in my archive, I have lots of DADGAD arrangements which haven't seen the light of day, some of which as a result of being too basic PS Thanks Chaps for the kind words!

Thanks Mark, that'll be great. I think some basic ones would open up the world of DADGAD to lots of guitarists and may be very popular.

DADGAD is one of those tunings that sounds great with simple arrangements. Play a lament or ballad and its all in the touch and feel. A great thing to get in to.

If I could only get my head around the tuning and what can be done in it rather than slaving away aping transcriptions note for note, I'd feel much more confident with it. It has a lovely ringing quality with all those open strings too

Did anything come of this Mark ? I have been playing guitar for a long time but, when you try out a new tuning it's almost like starting from scratch, so the simpler the better really. John

Hi John, I've been a bit out of the loop in terms of the forum for a bit, but I'll have a look this morning, and see what I can upload.....

Modesty has prevented me from posting this link until now :$ But I think Calum's Road might be a good start. The Widow Cantwell's Fancy, and the part time through Connaughtman's Rambles, are both melody only - no bass notes - so might be suitable too (with some simplification, such as avoiding the triplets).

I for one am grateful for the link, some really good pieces there. I have downloaded a handful to print out and have a try. Thanks again for the link, a good site.
