I really don't understand this for the following reasons:
1) How did the poor guitar get into this state? 2) Is it only the fact that it has a pickup that makes it work at all? 3) On the basis that he has it on a monopod, does that mean it doesn't even have enough strength to put it on his knee? 4) It seems to have an odd bracing pattern. Is that what's keeping it all together? 5) It has those wiggly frets that correct the innate intonation faults in a guitar in standard tuning - so it must be a pretty expensive instrument. Why doesn't he get it fixed? 6) Does this prove busking is no way to treat a guitar?
With a few minutes thought I could probably come up with many more questions (please feel free to do so). But the overwhelming question is ... Why?

It's hard enough when the frets are straight ....

Perhaps the frets started off straight

The guitar is a Greg Smallman, some of the most expensive guitars around!
Smallman guitars have lattice bracing and incredibly thin tops with heavy sides/back. Smallman guitars have a reputation of being the most 'banjo' like of classical guitars, and their thin soundboards are supposed to be very prone to wear/holes forming.

Id noticed that a while back on Glen Hansards Takamine . Its full of holes , as is Willie Nelsons 'Horse' . Jon Gomms Lowden is held together with tape and smothered in glue ! So maybe were all taking the wrong approach, maybe that handcrafted custom build I so desire is obtainable now . After all if I had one with no top at all , it must reduce the cost 😎, just a block to hold a saddle and the strings . As for wonky frets , there is a company do that . I cant remember the name but seemimgly its so the intonation is bang on !

A guitar that sounds like a banjo !!!! 😭 Sounds like my worst nightmare . Sorry Martin 😅

Here he is on 'Australia's Got Talent'. A bit more wood on the guitar, screws in the fingerboard and wobbly frets in 2011.

"I really want to connect with the audience.." (spends entire performance looking at his fretboard)

Technically brilliant, but not really something I really enjoyed. A little bit too self-indulgent and not really any connection with anyone watching at all.

The integrity of AcousticSoundboard matters a lot! Keith You say that but I'm selling out at the earliest opportunity - a pack of Rolos is normally all it takes.
