Not sure anyone will be interested in this but who knows... I tried freehand routing the housing for some Mother of Pearl inlay, whilst it worked in wasn't as tidy as it could have been so I decided to make a template for use on my pantograph. General overall view of the assembly - the different holes allow for reduction changes - currently the template is x8 larger than the finished rout channel. Underside showing the 1mm router cutter Template and a test piece The MOP inlay

That's a tiny router bit you're using. Is that an Axminster power unit and flexi-thingy? Proof, if needed, that the old ways have often not been bettered. Nice work. Now I expect to see your next fingerboard plastered with cupids and roses.

That's excellent Francis, what did you do before this for inlays? I did my first the other day but had to give up on using abalone as it was really brittle and the design was quite intricate, I ended up using copper and a very basic design. Do you make the inlays?

Thanks ashley - I didn't make this one though I have done simpler ones in the past. I got Rothko & Frost to make it up from my artwork. I've since got them to do more for me but in celluloid rather than gold MOP. Much cheaper and I chose a larger size piece of celluloid and crammed six logo's on one artwork. www.rothkoandfrost.com/custom-mother-of-pearl-abalone-celluloid-inlay/

Cheers, will check that out. I bought all my lacquer etc from them but never thought to look at the inlays
