I may be preaching to the converted here but whilst doing some YouTube scanning I came across a video call " home by Andrew York , 1888 Torres " . I ve never really been into classical guitar but his playing is superb . I m assuming the Torres 1888 bit refers to the guitar which also sounds incredible. I m not sure how to ebbed a video on here so you ll have to go and find it yourself , I m afraid but it's well worth it.

It is a great vid - but he's gone a bit weird recently... have you seen his website?
Lots of his pieces are very straightforward to play and beautiful, but sadly looked down upon by the classical world as a bit twee and naff.

And what's wrong with weird ;-) SaveSave

The website is fun though some of those maths articles are a little weird. Still, if Bach was alive today ....

Allow me...and yes, it's beautiful I'm indifferent to the playing, the tone is great, but his hat is truly exceptional.

His books on playing jazz are really great, makes sense of the complicated stuff. I love playing 'Sunburst'... sort of his only piece that has entered the mainstream repertoire. Jonny

I like that piece - I can well imagine the classical word looking down their nose at it, but would that some of their standard repertoire have that much emotion in them. A lot of classical guitar world hate Segovia with a passion, so Andrew York is in good company there.

A man who likes comfortable clothes and comfortable music, I'd say. A nice bit of slubb silk there...

I really like a lot of York stuff. His music seems to be widely used in teaching over here in the US even if not often heard "on the circiut" - probably because his music spans many ability levels, and is "interesting". I myself was just given a piece mystifyingly titled "royal plum pudding" to learn - at least so far as I'm concerned it beats Fernando Sor -

Lots of his pieces are very straightforward to play and beautiful, but sadly looked down upon by the classical world as a bit twee and naff. I can just imagine that, Jonny. It makes me want to fall back on the timeless... "I may not know much about music, but I know what I like". OK, it wouldn't sound out of place on Classic FM, but it's still a very pretty piece of music.
