Just discovered Alaska Piks while watching a youtube video. Does anybody on here use them and if so how do you rate them for fit, sound and practicality? Cheers, Steve.

I use one on my first finger to save wearing my nail on the steel strings. I use thumb pick and nails on the other fingers. I have to carefully shape and polish the tip of the Alaska pik to make it like a nail to get a good, smooth sound. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it wears a lot better that my nail, and I always have a couple prepared so I can get a consistent sound. Give them a go. The bit that grips the finger is sharp-edged, and you'll have to round the corners off and smooth them for comfort. Ensure that your nail is at least a couple of millimetres shorter than the tip of the pick to avoid the nail coming into contact with the string as it slides across the pick, otherwise you'll get an ugly, brittle sound.
