Dear forumers,
I need your help in upgrading the tuners for my recently purchased Sigma SOMR-28MLE.
I'm very pleased with this guitar but I would like to upgrade the tuners. I do prefer nickel with ivoroid knobs.
I have read good things about Waverly, Gotoh and Schaller but in your opinion what is the brand/model which has the best relation between quality and cost?
Something that can be installed as a DIY with a direct replacement would be great.
Warm thanks for your help!
Regards from the sunny Lisbon,
Pedro

Nice guitar! The Grover open gear tuners fitted to your guitar (at least they were on the page I found it) should be of perfectly reasonable quality. It would be helpful to know what you hope to achive from changing the tuners - are you after a different look, a different gear ratio, "better" tuning, open back or sealed etc etc. But check out the StewMac site - www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Parts/Tuning_Machines/Solid_Peghead_Guitar_Tuning_Machines/ - each tuner model has a diagram with all the crucial dimensions which will help you determine which models will make direct replacement of your existing tuners possible. Buy with your eyes and your budget - there is no definitive "best", or best cost/quality ration. The Grover open gear tuners fitted to your guitar should be of perfectly reasonable quality. Different people will always swear by the ones they themselves use. They'll argue for hours about gear ratios "feel" and other minutiae. The thing is that they all work - you'll hear good and less good things about each. It comes down to personal preference and we can't tell you what yours might be, nor how much extra you might be prepared to spend to get something you feel to be exactly right. Hope you enjoy doing the research, and find something that suits you/your guitar. Let us know how you get on! Keith

Another possibility ....Rubner Tuners. I bought a set of these for my mandocello....an easy swop and straightforward to buy online. Smooth in use and look good too.. I'd expect the guitar equivalent to be much the same... www.rubnertuners.com

Thanks for your comments. Very helpful!
I'm looking for a better tuning, only (nickel open geared with ivoroid knobs).
I'm not sure what is the model in Grover and Rubner brands which allows a direct replacement in my guitar.
