So last weekend I grabbed a weed to pull it out of the garden and flippin' 'eck it hurt. Let go rather rapidly to discover a bunch of tiny little thorns in my thumb and fingers. I pulled them all out, went and got some gardening gloves and disposed of the mean weed. That told it!
Alas, one of the thorns was embedded deep in my thumb, and a week later it's still there, hurting a bit, but not much and only when I pick something up at a certain angle. The question is, will it eventually come out of it's own accord or will I have to start digging around with a (probably) rusty pen-knife blade? I don't want to do anything dramatic for a few weeks as next week, and most of August there are a few gigs. Happy to run some boiling water over the pen-knife blade before inserting it.

A visit to the doctors' surgery and/or an appointment with a nurse? Can't be too careful.

As SWMBO says (quite truthfully), I wouldn't go to the doctors if my head fell off. They have far more pressing things to deal with than me. Meanwhile, I've found a cure. I went for a bike ride this morning and had four punctures. The other side of my thumb(s) are now red and swollen from having to force a tight road tyre on four times. Must admit, by the fourth time I had to resort to a tyre level as my thumbs both said enough's enough. Can't feel the thorn at all at the moment!

Seriously get down to the doctor. They'd rather deal with it before it turns septic. And while you're at it look out some new tyres. Four punctures in a day suggests they need replacing

A thorn in my thumb what a pain in the bum is it going to hamper my playing? Cos I am too afraid to dig in with a blade because... gangrene... you know what I'm saying.
But my thumb really hurts so it's off to the nurse to organise sterile extraction and she'll make the thorn curse the day it was born and she won't leave my thumb out of action.

Don't pick things up at a certain angle Also avoid picking things up at an uncertain angle.

Some really useful advice here Bad luck all round, especially on the four punctures. That's not a fun bike ride. I'm with you on the thorn extraction, though. I'd be in about it myself, but then I'm a bit daft about stuff like that and I'm sure someone (nurse, doctor) at your doctors surgery would be more than happy to do it for you in a clean and safe way

Careful Derek, remember the thumb is the missing link, without it you'll be baring your buttocks in public and throwing poo at the postman again.
