I've played a few from this range in shops, and thought they were well made, good sounding guitars offering terrific value for money. As ever, the factory setups varied somewhat but I did play one that was perfect. I could easily have taken it home with me, were it not for the fact that I'm supposed to be downsizing!

The one I played was set up just right for me. Hopefully I'll be able to generate the cash before someone else buys it!

You need it, Gordon! Keith ...I'll tell Mrs Gogz you said that, when I pluck up enough courage to tell her about it!

I have the Jim Dandy & I'm rather fond of it. I put a Baggs Anthem SL in it & gigged it heavily for a couple of years until I *accidentally* came home with my Gibson last year.
Someone who'd seen me play it previously was asking me why I didn't have it with me & offering me silly money for it over the weekend.

I was playing a 2nd hand Jim Dandy the other day too... great wee blues box. My feeling is that now that Gretsch are getting a name for decent acoustic instruments the prices will shoot up, so now is the time to get a Style 2... My Honeydipper reso is a fantastic guitar (proper spun cone in it) and they have really gone up in price since I bought mine a coupla years ago.

It's OK if it is Gordon - I'm out of GAS. FWIW there's an Acoustic Paradiso video on YouTube featuring the Gretsch Style 1, Style 2 and Style 3. They seem pretty damn good to me! Particular praise aimed at the Style 2. I had a Jim Dandy for quite a while - it's a good enough guitar for Eric Bibb. It was a great guitar for snappy blues but unfortunately my fingers aren't any good for that anymore. Mark

Anyway, I was going to say that the shop is Scayles 😁 No surprise there then! They don't display factory setup guitars unless they've been properly done at the factory. Hope you don't get beaten to it if you decide yes. As Scayles say officially .... "When you buy from us you know that all the instruments are unpacked and checked as soon as they arrive; they are all tuned and set up, if the strings are old they are re strung and string height and intonation are adjusted as necessary, even on budget instruments." I've tried acoustics there a lot over the last few years and I have no reason to doubt the truth of their statement. Their commitment certainly beats one of their bigger competitors in the city where I was told the policy was "only adjust the factory setup if the guitar is unplayable", and another where strings are too often sticky feeling and discoloured. ... yup... totally agree with everything you say about Scayles Mark. A great shop and lovely people....and I get a loyalty discount in there for being a member of me local guitar club 😎
I've bought a lot of gear in there over the years, including my Gretsch reso, my Pilgrim banjo, my Breedlove mandolin, my old tenor guitar, me daughter's Strat, our band's cajon, the wife's Uke and countless strings, picks, cables, etc., etc. Nothing is too much trouble for George and his staff. If George can get sale or return terms on something he will pull out the stops to get it in for you to try. He once got 3 different banjos in for me, knowing I would only buy one of them. Brilliant shop!
