Hi Guys Due to a total change in playing style i'm leaving behind steel strung and going to Nylon, as i've never owned one before i dont know much about Nylon strung Guitars so am doing as much research as possible. I'm not really into classical music, more leaning towards Spanish styles. I contacted a large music store near me with a very good reputation to get some information from there experts, or Guys with a lot more knowledge than me! My budget is up to £600. I was told of Two likely candidates, The Admira 2163 EVA E and the Yamaha NCX 700, The Admira being slightly cheaper, both are Electro Acoustics, which is a nice option i think. I have seen them both on line but have not seen them in the flesh yet to actually play but will very soon, obviously i will try before i buy. After finding a guitar i usually look for different reviews on line, Youtube ect. The Yamaha gets good reviews throughout and looks an all round fine instrument, my REAL worry is i can find no reviews at all on the Admira in this particular model, not one! Is this a bad sign? The Guys at the music store say its a fantastic guitar? but is it, where are the reviews? Any ideas please Guys, i don't want to make a big mistake as i'm quite clueless with nylon strung guitars. also, to add more to the mix theres also a guitar there, same price called a Cordoba, never heard of it? Many Thanks

Hi volante5767 and I'm sorry I don't know a lot about classical guitars, but there are a fair few on here who do. I do know you can get a really good, excellent quality Yamaha classical guitar to get started on for a lot less than your budget. In fact, the entry level Yamaha C40 is a great way to begin and can be found second hand on Gumtree for example for around £50. I tend to use Gumtree a lot, and have bought two classical guitars that way. I managed to get each of them for around 40% of the new retail price (i.e. 60% off!). It's the best way to get value and since you don't really know much about them just yet, I wouldn't be blowing my whole budget on a new guitar on the word of a shop salesman. Not that they are lying, just that they have an interest in you buying a specific guitar. For the record, I have heard of Cordoba, and Admira are decent Spanish made guitars, but they tend to be a fair bit cheaper on the whole (as much of their range as I've experienced) than your budget.

jonnymosco is yer man... But if you are thinking of anything other than a starter instrument it would be worth checking out a specialist dealer rather than a general music shop. Keith

Hi Volante... any of these - but the Juan Hernandez is a fantastic guitar, a student has one - they also do a cheaper model. Great service too, the guy is very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck with your search. Jonny

At £600 you're into the realms of handcrafted guitars if you want. Admira guitars are still built in Spain I believe - handcrafted selection in your price range. I notice that the company was founded by a German! There's a couple of German based outfits that seem to have a good reputation - La Mancha and Hanika. But not built in Germany. I only have one classical guitar and it's a small size and fairly low budget one. A La Mancha but it sounds excellent for its price point. Good luck with your search. You should be able to find a guitar that feels and sounds right for you at that price range. Mark

A student of mine has a La Mancha, it is great value and fit and finish is well beyond the price point. Thomann sells them.

I have a Yamaha NCX1200 R and it’s very good, well made and sounds great. The spruce top is perhaps less warm than the typical cedar classical and I find the classical neck a bit chunky as it’s my first nylon string guitar, my limited ability the real issue. The pickup system is an excellent reproduction of the acoustic sound. I think the NCX700 has the same pickup. Vinny

Cordoba make a nice one, also the Admira. Then there's the classic Yamaha range but also Takamine-Pat Coldrick does wonders on his. I'd say have a look at Siccas Guitars tho they are more of a high end boutique kind of deal.
