Hi all,
Recently i was introduced to the music of The Kruger Brothers on a banjo forum during a discussion about slow playing. One song which was mentioned was called "Beautiful Nothing", and whilst very slow, and pretty easy to play mostly, it is such a nice tune. Another video shows them explaining that they were running a workshop which was quite advanced playing, and there was an elderly gentleman in the audience who was quite despondent that as he was just learning, he couldn't play anything like that. So they wrote an easy tune.
For me, this so simple tune has more emotional kick than most intricate and advanced pieces.
Which brings me on to my question......can you think of any slow, easy but nice tunes on the guitar that have this effect? I'm not talking so much about three chord songs and the likes, however i guess they could fit in here, but just a simple piece a beginner could play that is different than the normal beginners tunes in the books.
It can be quite daunting as a beginner, especially when you are surrounded by people who can play intricate pieces. For me, i tend to just melt into the background and am rarely heard. It's what stops me going to as many jams, playing live and even going to meet ups.
So to be able to play something easy from the beginning that sounds like you know what you are doing is quite a big thing for your confidence in my opinion.
Maybe i should work on composing my own simple pieces if thats the standard i'm at?
Opinions? Tune recommendations? Maybe you've composed something yourself?
Thanks,
Calv.
