Keep an eye out for these two whenever you're in a guitar shop.

There was an article about this in the online Independent, they have been doing this for years all over Europe. They are not confined to guitars they steal any type of high-value instrument. They think they are Rumanian.

They think they are Rumanian. I read that the same couple have stolen high end guitars from Mansons and Andertons over the years as well. They think they are "stealing to order" - if so it's doubtful that the guitars would end up on the common market any time soon. At least they now have pretty good photos of the couple and might be able to use facial recognition software.

Given the amount of sharing that’s been going on via Facebook, and no doubt elsewhere, it’s hard to imagine that this pair could walk into any guitar shop in the country and not be recognised now.

I highly doubt facial recognition will be used for this.
This will be low on the agenda. Facial recognition is usually reserved for anti terrorist activities. Also it is usually used in the UK to find someone who you know the identity of. Not to ID someone. For example the coppers load in the faces of known trouble makers that may attend a football match or demonstration. They will then have cameras scanning the crowd and the software will pick up the matches.
Either way. I hope these gits are caught.

I thought the same, been at it for a long time and still getting away with it.
I had to pick my work laptop up from offices in Manchester today, the engineer was telling me about a recent theft of 10 laptops. The thief tailgated the cleaner at the weekend and helped himself to 20K worth of laptops. They had it all on CCTV including one of him outside calmly waiting for an getting on a bus. Police didn't want to see the CCTV, they just gave the company a crime number.
