With regards to PRS — shouldn't this just be in the club or pub's return as usual? As I said earlier, it should be, Andy. But my question was as to whether the situation is more complicated when the material is broadcast/uploaded to F/B. A cursory read of the F/B link I posted earlier would suggest that it may well be. It is probably up to the copyright holders to claim if they feel aggrieved, so anything bad is probably unlikely to happen! Keith I suspect the audience will not be that big to worry people !!!!

if it's the wrong audience, quantity doesn't matter.
I wish I could join, Paul :-( I'm on a meeting in the Alps on Monday night. I'll do my best, but I can't promise.

Hi Paul, Will definitely be listening in this evening, hope all goes well, and any worries re sound or copyright are overcome......I must admit, I wouldn't have thought about any implications re the copyright or the sound. I would have just plugged in and played, and live streamed via my IPhone. I agree with Keith, anything bad is highly unlikely to happen. Have a good one!

Well, we tested out our ability to do the Facebook live (and I know some of you tuned in - so thank you). We now know which buttons to press!
If you're planning to be part of the event via Facebook Live, please leave comments, we will try to address anything that arises. It's all getting a bit exciting now. Let's hope the event lives up to the promise!!!

I'm doing it on DLive to try and build an audience and earn Steem crypto currency. It's a new paradigm but I'm enjoying it and have the gear to do it, so I'm gonna try and do one a week and see how it goes.

In case anybody's interested, I thought I'd post up a post event roundup of observations from doing this on Monday. Overall, I'd recommend it, particularly as a fundraising idea for a charity.
First the technical side of things. We used one phone. It was precariously hanging from a plastic bracket that happened to be in the pub close to the ceiling. We had it in a cradle/tripod thingy with bendy legs, so we got it pointing in the right direction and as secure as possible and then stuck some map pins around the cradle to try to protect it from slippage. That bit worked quite well. We had the phone with the screen towards the performers so we could use it as a monitor. That would have been a good idea except that the resulting filmed image is a mirror image. We've subsequently found that the rear camera gives a mirror image and the front camera gives a proper image, but by the time we discovered this it was too late. So the whole event was left to right reversed. I've read up a few things about this since, and a lot of Facebook Live users have commented on this. It doesn't matter what controls your camera has, you can't use them to right the mirror image on facebook live.
We were also filming in portrait orientation. Landscape would have been better, but we got all sorts of warnings when we tried to change it. Again subsequently, I have found that you can film in landscape, but you have to have the phone in that orientation before invoking Facebook Live. But, to be honest, the orientation was OK in that the comments that were coming in were easily read by the side of the image.
The live streaming was interrupted several times. We didn't know what the problem was at the time, though we tried various stuff, but after a post mortem with the more tech savvy than me (not hard!) people in the pub we have a hypothesis. We were using the public WiFi, and we have found that a lot of people there switched on FB live at various points in the evening, and we think that that caused bandwidth issues. They have had this before with customers using Sky Sports apps. Next time we try it we will use the private WiFi of the landlord and see whether that makes a difference.
We also found that the image darkened and lightened up several times. We still don't know why. But I think ideally we should have used some form of spot lighting and we didn't.
Next time I think we'll do it differently. I think we'll run it off a laptop with a USB camera with separate microphone and some lighting. The fixed viewpoint seemed to work well , but the use of a phone really didn't let us do the event justice.
Having said all this, I think, overall it was successful. I have watched the whole thing in the days since the event and there was a good interaction between the people there and the Facebook audience (most of whom were denizens of this forum) and there was a great deal of good natured banter on the facebook feed.
More to the point, we raised a good deal of money for the cause. We estimate it was nearly £500 altogether (it will be counted by Diverse Abilities today and I'll be able to confirm the exact amount). There are some of us here who contributed handsomely to that total so thank you very much all of you who donated. And thank you, Leo, for writing the curmudgeonly song about not winning the raffle. Sharon was particularly pleased with the chorus.
We will probably do it again in a few months time.

I thought it was great...I really enjoyed being able to feel part of the event, albeit remotely. Yes, there were flare issues (and I’m not just talking dress sense) but I get the feeling that a spot light would’ve made it unbearably hot and sweaty for all concerned. Sound quality was more than adequate - as was resolution, to be honest. Better would’ve been nicer but, seriously, does it matter for what you were doing? Good webcam and private WiFi will help that, anyway I’m glad to hear you’re not giving up on the concept - more power to your elbow(s) and £500 is about 50% more than your original target. Excellent!

It was fun alright, and being the winner of a mug and some toenail clippings, I'd say it was value for money

We raised £494 and the Gift Aid on the JustGiving page was another £30. That's £524 in total benefitting the charity. Thank you to everybody involved here.

Great stuff, Paul. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening - really felt a part of what was going on, and to be able to banter with forum chums too was great. Looking fiorward to the next one!
