Hi
Does anybody have any experience of Trance Audio Pickups, particularly the Amulet M (Dual Mono)?
I hear excellent things about these pickups - but, as ever, there is a strong USA bias to all of the comments and opinions, hence my question.
Also, does anybody know of a UK Luthier / Technician that is experienced in doing the install?
Cheers
Andy

Sound good but a pain to use and impossible to remove.

I have heard one in the flesh as it were and it did sound good although this wasn't in a pickup comparison setting. I think Chris is right, once installed removal is supposedly quite difficult. Over in that other forum there are a lot of aficionados many whom seem to ahem been driven to the project by Jackson Browne's endorsement.
Pickups are pickups. Those that blend in a bit of mic sound best to me but you have to be careful where to use them. I'm happier blending an external mic whenI can and relying on my pickup the rest of the time. Incidentally, I use a Headway pickup which is made here in the UK and pretty good as pickups go.
The only thing I'd be excited about is the Tonedexter but I don't know anyone who has acquired one yet.

I had a ToneDexter for a short while - and sold it on. To me, it didn't live up to all of the hype - but other people better qualified than me to comment (Doug Young for example) seem to swear by them.

I recently played a gig with a duo who each had Trance Audio pickups in a couple of old small bodied Gibson guitars. I thought they sounded excellent live, very natural, warm, woody - all of those kinda words.
Had a quick chat with them both afterwards and they were very enthusiastic about those pickups.

Simon Alexander who posts here has one in a guitar I sold him. Send him a pm. He wanted Ralph to remove it but they gave up.

The problem with the Trans audio is that it is well nigh impossible to remove once installed- It is impossible to drill through the slot in the neck to get an undersaddle Baggs element type pickup installed because the drill would hit one of the ?piezzos on the amulet. Its out of the guitar now and replaced by a K and K soundhole pickup which works well and sounds excellent. Anther disadvantage of the amulet is that it doesn't come with the usual 1/4 inch hole for a jack-it has its own eccentric lead and metal DI box which is a pain to lug up on stage if youre just doing the standard two numbers at an open mike or folk club-plenty of opportunity to drop the metal di box on something or trip ocer the long cable. I thought the sound was fine but no better than a K and K and the hassle factor was considerabe-no doubt Jackson B has an army of techs and roadies to tender to his amulet- for lesser mortals its a pain to use in practice!
