Ok,ok......it wasn't a real pay yer money one to one type lesson. I've been watching his classical masterclasses that he did years ago on tv. And it was fascinating to see his changing fretting thumb placements so as to access certain frets while he plays. Anyway...to cut a long story short...i've experimented playing some chords that I wouldn't normally try to play as I previously either couldn't reach some frets or If I did manage to reach them then they wouldnt sound clearly. And i'm delighted with the results. This info may not come as a huge surprise to some of the more gifted (in relation to guitar playing) forum members....but at a quick guess, I reckon that i've increased my chord repertoire by around 40 %. I never previously played frets on strings 5 and 6 with my little finger or played any chords with more than a 4 fret finger span.

At the risk of introducing more seditious classical guitar material - here's another on how to reach things that are otherwise impossible.... and I can personally attest that Kevin Gallagher usually nails it... Julie

See he's using his Romanillos guitar. Also the right hand picking position is creating lots of different emphasis on the piece.
