Anyone out there know how to to get rid of dark stains caused by guitar sitting too long on stand? I think the guitar I bought recently must have been sitting on a foam-covered stand, that has left four burn-like stains on the white binding on the butt end. I am pessimistic that something can be done to eradicate/improve it. It is a Martin 000-28, so not cheap. Anyone had any success Removing similarly-made stains?

Hi Robin
Some pictures would be good.
Anything that is on the surface of the lacquer can be polished off with a liquid abrasive like T Cut but not T Cut. Some luthiers on here will advise on the best product to use.
I have successfully used a Festool polishing compound which is equivalent to a 9000 grit.

Hi J Thanks for that. Not sure whether the stain has permeated the lacquer. I am a new member, so could you tell me how to post pics. Thanks Rob

Hi J Don't know what I did there when trying to attach a photo. However, it is not allowing me to attach a photo/s, saying its too big. I have looked for info on forum and apparently it is an upload from flickr. Have to sit down and work it all out - sounds like a Lennon/McCartney lyric. Rob

Reading the info it suggests it is for restoring natural wood finishes; it does not mention lacquer finishes. But if it works its worth a try.
This is the stuff I suggested; it is specifically for lacquers

Thanks guys. I probably need to upload some pics to show you the small surface area affected on the binding. Rob
