Tried a J15 & J45 cutaway today. Unfortunately I don’t know enough about tone to describe it in detail. However I do know what sound I like. Both guitars were set up well with a nice action. The J15 had a more mellow sound to my ears which I liked. The J45 had a more bassie sound which I also liked but not as much as the J15. Played the J15 for about 40 minutes liked the sound but the neck had a Gloss finish and my fretting hand kept sticking to it. I found it hard to move my hand up and down the neck. To be honest although I enjoyed playing both guitars it helped me appreciate my Venus. I’m gonna keep my money until I’ve tried the Faith PJE legacy Mars. It’s similar price to the J15.

Seems like a wise decision to me. If you try a guitar it doesn't really matter how much you like the sound if there's some physical property of the guitar that gets in the way of playing it easily. If you buy it the result is that it gets played less and less and the frustration grows and grows till it has to go. He said with the wisdom of hindsight! Mark

In my experience of the last few years of you find a Gibson with a great sound it has a crap neck or if it has a great neck it doesn’t sound so good.
The J15 is an under-rated guitar.

Yes Andy the J15 was very nice. It was warm in the shop and my hands were sweaty and sticking to the neck. Otherwise I might have brought it home with me.

I’m gonna keep my money until I’ve tried the Faith PJE legacy Mars. It’s similar price to the J15. If you come along to Halifax in September, you can try out a Faith PJE Signature Neptune. Not quite the shape you’re after but similar in quality

Thanks for the offer Martin. Would love to come but unfortunely can’t make it 👍 Maybe one year I’ll manage to get there.
