I have always used Thomastik strings for my archtop and also bass. Just amazing strings and consistently good. However, they are not cheap!! So, I was considering trying a couple of different brands as I need to order some more. Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions? They are going on an Eastman T49V, essentially a Gibson 175 with a single humbucker, so I guess not strictly speaking a 'jazz box'.
I normally use Thomastik BB113 strings on the Eastman which are a 13-53 roundwound string.
Cheers
Guy

I like the Newtone Archtop strings 0.012 - 0.056" they do a range of string weights (4) 11-50's to 14-58's

Thanks francis, they really do look interesting strings and great to have all the size options too. I will grab a set and try them!

Thomastik Flats Have you ever tried to explain to a fiddle player how expensive Thomastiks are?

Thomastik Flats Have you ever tried to explain to a fiddle player how expensive Thomastiks are? I sometimes use flats on the bass but they never quite work for me on a guitar. I find them a little boomy on an amplified archtop for some reason. Unless you've used Thomastiks before I don't think anybody can get their heads around how/why they are so expensive!!! Mind you, they not only sound amazing but seem to last longer than virtually any other string out there.
