So it seems the horrible buzz on my Yamaha that I'd put down to the neck moving in the dry weather was the worn out 1970s machine heads resonating every time I hit the open D string. I popped it into PMT in Birmingham and they swapped the machine heads for some locking Grovers they had just pulled off a new Les Paul = problem solved, except the lovely bass response which is what made me fall in love with the guitar in the first place is noticeably diminished. Now the old tuners weighed a ton & I had the same problem when I tried to swap them myself a while back, so I'm assuming the issue is the change of mass on the headstock. Now, tone being subjective and all, other people who've played the guitar and felt it lacked balance might well think it sounds better, but I'd at least like to have the option of getting that bass thump when I want it.
So I'm curious about getting myself a Fender Fat Finger. Has anyone tried one? Does it do what it's supposed to? Does it do anything a £2 metal G-clamp from a hardware shop doesn't?

Until I read this post I have never heard of the Fender Fat Finger. £36.00 to find out unless you can pick on up on eBay used.
