OK, hive mind. I'm expecting a more than guitar sized object (not a guitar) to be delivered to me, but I am discussing couriers with the vendor.
Is Parcelforce OK, or is there a better carrier who can do door to door?

In my Post Office we refer to them as Parcel Farce. Having said that, we have a customer locally who sends guitars through us with Parcel Farce a lot and he's never had a problem.

With Parcelforce it depends on what the package is and how valuable. Basic Insurance of £100 to £200 is included, but there's often requirements for how it's packaged to activate that cover. Here's their listing that includes excluded items from compensation. You'll see all musical instruments are excluded from enhanced compensation so even if properly packed (a guitar needs to be in a hard case for example) only that basic insurance level applies. Even if you've been allowed to increase the compensation level by paying more money to them. Mark

I generally use UPS - no issues. However, my colleague ordered a very expensive guitar from the States (he has an admirable GAS problem) and the UPS man put a note through the office door advising that he'd left the package 'behind the wall next to the well'. This is within a shared courtyard in the middle of the city. Thankfully it was still there, but that's living dangerously!!

I just shipped a guitar to Denmark with DirectCourier solutions, they are an agent and they booked it with FedEx. £67.00 3 day delivery and £104.00 next day with £1,500.00 Insurance cover.

They left it in a shed of the wrong house! since when I've thought of them as OOPS!

I’ve used UPS and Parcel Force and they were both utterly terrible. Parcel Force lost a guitar i sent for 4 weeks. UPS managed to wreck the case. Luckily the guitar inside was okay.

No. I always ask who else they deal with. Nobody uses just one courier.
IMHE DPD is currently by far the best indeed I will pay a fee quid extra to use their services.

UPS via Interparcel seem ok
Used twice recently with no problems, and insurance seems to cover guitars. it is expensive cover though...

When I bought my Waterloo it was shipped to me via UPS. Their tracking system is hopeless. They didn’t deliver on the promised day. When it did arrive (10 minutes after Mrs Riverman, who’d waited in for three quarters of the day but had then to go out, had left the house) they ignored their promise that they’d try again next day if no one was in. Instead, they left it on the drive, in full sun, in front of the car but still within full view of anyone walking past. I think the seller works in a guitar shop...it was packed in a Taylor shipping box, so there was no question of what it was! And the note they shoved through the letterbox said “left by the bin”. Cheers UPS!
