I finally got round to publishing the talk that Gordon gave us at the RMMGA gathering in May. I've not done the Wordpress post yet or any other social media marketing and don't have time right now, so I thought I'd post the video here first and let all y'all have a look. I know leoroberts in particular mentioned his disappointment that we didn't talk about Gordon's hybrid picking style in the podcast - well, he talks at large here about it, amongst many other things. It's a long 'un at 1h15m, but Gordon's very engaging and the time will fly by!

I played that Fylde last year at the workshop, when it was freshly made and waiting for Gordon to pick it up. Absolutely lovely Unfortunately Roger is now quoting north of £5k for maple b&s ...

Looking forward to watching this. I went to a workshop he did at the Lancaster Music Festival last year. There were only about 12 people in the audience, but it didn't bother him at all. He took it as a chance to get us involved in the conversation and see what we wanted him to play and talk about. He was only supposed to be on for an hour, but after about 75 minutes he suggested that we all go and get some coffee and come back. In the end he did about 2 hours, and only stopped then because there was another event in the room. The whole thing was fantastic. He's such a generous man who obviously loves the instrument and seemed as interested in hearing about our music as in talking about his own.

Unfortunately Roger is now quoting north of £5k for maple b&s ... That's a fraction of what Kim Walker's charging! It was the first time I believe that I've ever seen cedar over maple. It suits Gordon perfectly.

It was the first time I believe that I've ever seen cedar over maple. It suits Gordon perfectly. A lot of the tracks on my CD "Diamonds in the Rough" were recorded with my cedar/maple/maple neck "Samhain" guitar made back in 2006: Roger played this guitar at the 2008 Cheltenham Acoustic Guitar Show where I had a stand opposite his. There's also a Gordon Giltrap connection as he presented and played the prize guitar I made for that show:

I am 50% of the way through, I'll save the other 50% for tomorrow.
I have never been a great fan of Gordon, possibly because he published highly complex arrangements in Total Guitar that were impossible to play so he was crossed off my list.
Having seen this I would imagine there is no better way to spend an afternoon, he is a great natural storyteller. I am looking forward to part two tomorrow.
His Pick and Pinky technique is hard to believe.
Thanks for posting
John
