OOh thanks for the heads up... Almost on the doorstep and a great opportunity to see a one of kind guitar master... but... He kind of annoys me... all that stampy bangy big grin apeing around takes away from the playing (IMHO)...wish he had more stuff like 'Angelina'... I'm sure I'm in the minority!

My experience is first time great, second time not as enjoyable, third time went because he was with Martin Taylor and fourth time because Clive Carroll was the support. The crowds love his thrashy stuff but I find it tiresome now and the sound not great IMO. Having said that I love his melodic stuff and his CD 'Only' is excellent. Phil

I have seen him once and it was memorable, but I am of the same opinion, I wouldn't rush back for more of the same.

Phil He's a showman and good luck to him. But from a musician's perspective I share your thoughts.

Martin Taylor has been known to refer to Tommy as "The Abominable Showman" - go figure...
Cheers,

They get rather overshadowed though! He has created a good life for himself with this stuff, so I guess something works for him!

It's the conundrum for performers isn't it.
Do the flash stuff and rapid fire speed merchant playing and get a big audience and a better income.
Or avoid that route, tighten the belt and accept the lower profile.
Good reasons for doing both, but I know I find it difficult not to be drawn to those that follow the second of those routes. Or I try and seek out and only listen to the more reflective pieces by those who follow the first route.

He just makes me feel very bored. Absolutely agree, Andy. You can't help thinking that inside is a great musician, trying to break out.
