How many guitars have been made from that Tree? I suppose it was a big tree?

This was a very unusual or unique national mutation I guess? I’ve done a mental tally and I think that my original off the top of my head guess was pretty accurate but it could even be more. There are several builds from The Tree going on around the world at the moment too so the numbers will rise accordingly. The wood from The Tree does indeed vary in visual exuberance with the veiny tortoiseshell stuff going for top dollar. The best part of 10 grand US in some cases. Which is interesting... I’ve seen the cash hit the table. It happens. I’ve played Tree guitars by Jason Kostal, Joel Michaud, Michael Greenfield, Casimi Guitars, Brock Poling and a couple of others. It’s great wood and all the examples I’ve been lucky enough to get hands on with have been exceptional instruments. That said, I imagine that building with this wood focuses the mind wonderfully... and as such no doubt an extra level of care is given to the build.

How many guitars have been made from that Tree? I suppose it was a big tree? I think I read that it has been used for furniture, too.

That was kind of why I asked. This would seem to be very desirable for some furniture makers.
I suspect if a set costs £10K a builder is going to be very confident about their ability and very careful in their build :-)

Hi, I have always had mixed emotions about tonewoods like this. I have only seen pictures of the wood, like in the Stew- Mac article and some thing in Acoustic guitar, but it seems rather sad that such a wonderful and rare living organism like that "Tree" was cut down anyway.
could any musical instrument justify that?
Yup, I like tonewoods and have my share of mahogany and rosewood (only old Brazilian and no Madagascar!)and I accept that we must kill trees to make our instruments and furniture etc., but , still... well I guess I'm a old softy!

There’s nothing wrong with being an old softy ...

There seem to be a few out there eg Martin made at least 15 in the 80's.
