Wow... I really like the look of this guitar. It has great "character" with those wonderful woods. Seems to have sold quickly...

Hi Robbie, I know very little about preamps, amps, pickups and the like (well actually I know very little about an awful lot of things but that's a whole other story). I've been getting around playing Maton guitars live for quite some time and think they have a terrific sound when plugged in... they are easy to dial in, are feedback resistant, and are virtually bullet proof. I was a little apprehensive going for the K&K but have found it to be surprisingly good first time up. The output level seems to be fine although I haven't really pushed it way up there... and I did play standing behind the amp so as to minimise any possibility of feedback. Was it the same quality as I'm used to getting from my old Maton? I'm not sure just yet. A friend in the congregation who is quite musically-minded did come up afterwards and tell me that the guitar sounded great (and she didn't know I had a new guitar). So I think that's a positive start. BTW, the Maton is sold

Well we've just finished our last family Mass for the school year and I thought the K&K pickup in the Torridge really performed well. I used a Red-Eye preamp that was recommended to me through another forum and it seemed to handle the heavy strumming and highish volume without any issues. I noticed a little bit of warbling/boominess from the low E when I first put the guitar through my AER Compact 60 amp and so rolled off the bass a bit on the AER EQ. That seemed to sort things out.
All up I'm very pleased with the result. As a guitar that I'll play 99% of the time acoustically at home, it certainly also delivers in a live setting.
Cheers, marcus
PS... how's that first test coming along in Brisbane??? Hopefully it won't rain all day tomorrow!

What's the definition of "oxymoron"? A Southie going by the stage-name "KP" who somehow gets picked as a British Lion.... meow.
Looking forward to the cricket starting up again... your boys seem to be in cracking form again and Mitchell Johnson is just itching to throw down a few wides.
Hmmm, I wonder if I forwarded "Thought I Was Asleep" to the Barmy Army whether they would consider making me an honourary member?

Thanks all for your kind comments... I am indeed "chuffed" to bits. I was able to request the burled walnut head veneer and the old style logo... perhaps I'm a bit Old Skool, but the transfer logo works best for me. The new logo is still the logo of choice in the shop but they have a few of the old ones lying around for those of us who are aesthetically challenged. I was able to choose the back and sides from about 8 sets that Simon sent me a picture of... although he had already put this set aside for me as he thought I'd choose it. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to playing it this weekend at a raucous family Mass... it will be interesting to hear how the K&K holds up. By the way, why are you all studiously avoiding commenting on my singing? I'm lined up in 2014 to audition for X-factor, the Voice and Australia's Got Talent... I'm expecting very, very big things....

Thanks Keith... the long wing bridge is apparently what Brook is using nowadays.
As to the H2... I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I plugged it into my computer and used the programme "Movie Maker"... it's a bit frustrating as it doesn't capture the guitar at all well. Perhaps I should have come to that recording workshop at the Forum meeting.
Cheers, marcus

Hi Leo,
Yes indeed I'm very happy... the guitar truly is wonderful and so easy to play.
You know, some people say I'm not so tough... but I am no man's bunny!
December 25th? My birthday is in March... and I'm not waiting.
Cheers, Marcus

Hi Kym, I'm using light gauge strings (12s to ) and will continue to use them. I think the guitar has excellent bass response. The shipping was no problem from my end. Simon at Brook just sent it with FedEx... but he did double-box the guitar. Funnily enough it took a very circuitous route to get here... England, France, China, Singapore then Australia. The guitar is almost better traveled than I am and it's only a few weeks old. I did have to pay a fair bit in import duties and shipping costs... but because the guitar is not being sold in England, Simon was able to subtract the VAT. So I think it only works out a bit more expensive than buying in England. All the best Marc

Well after not too long a wait I've just received a wonderful Brook Torridge from the fellows in Exeter. It has a Sitka top, flamed Walnut back and sides, a burled Walnut headplate, Rosewood bindings I think, and Walnut rosette and inlay. I also opted for a pickguard and black tuner buttons. One peculiarity of this Torridge is that it has a 24.5" scale rather than the usual 24.75" scale... the slightly shorter scale should help with my tendinitis issues. I think the guitar turned out great. I asked Simon for something that could be a bit of an all-rounder as I mostly play fingerstyle at home but also strum out a fair bit when playing in church. I think the guitar really succeeds in meeting both those needs... I am delighted with the result. Thanks to Simon for all his advice and help in making the choices that go with building a guitar. Thanks also to Robbie and Phil for their assistance and support along the way (including a few sneaky shots when they visited the workshop). Here are a few photos and a couple of dodgy videos I made... sorry for the incompetent recordings; I really play and sound much much much better than I do in the clips (seriously... everyone says so... including my Mum) All the best Marcus
