Thanks for the additional info Kym. Sounds like more mysterious luthier alchemy to me. Whatever it is, the guitar looks great and it sounds great when you play it. Cheers, marcus

Thanks for another great review and tune Kym. You certainly seem to have found what you need in your two Spiras. I've got to say I've never seen top bracing like you show in the pics here (with the two braces around what looks to be a big bridge plate)... very interesting but way beyond my brain to comment any further on! Cheers, marcus

Nice one Leo... will you be playing live or will it be pre-recorded? By the way, I understand if you're too busy to reply and all given that you've now cracked the big time.

Thanks Phil... it's by Al Petteway and is called The Crossing. It's just about the only fingerstyle song I can play!!
Thanks for noticing Kym... they are both a blessing and a curse. You know it's hard being a naked knee model... one is often left feeling like a piece of meat for hire rather than an artist and philosopher. If I remember, I'll send you a signed photo... no need to thank me.

No funnies here... I just have extraordinarily appealing guitar-playing knees which intrigue, amaze and stupefy my besotted fans. I guess it's a trademark kind of thing. The only downside is that it often results in inappropriate fan mail. Cheers marcus

C'mon fellas... you wouldn't deny a lifebuoy to a drowning man or a straw to a bloke whose clutching for all he's worth would you? Would love to see you if you make it out here Alasdair... I'll even shout you that beer (and promise to get you a nice import rather than some Aussie swill) BTW, was the show any good?

Hi Alasdair, I really appreciate your kindness in sorting this out. It had well-nigh slipped my mind as I have been entirely focused on celebrating the flogging your surrogate team took in the one day series. By the way, did anyone notice that we won the America's Cup as well? Nic may well be inspired to pen a little sea-shanty about that hard-fought victory...

Thanks for the additional info Phil. Did you have that surgery done to your wrist? Sounds hideously painful... and slightly barbaric!!! Hope the new Lyn helps with playing pain-free.

Lovely looking guitar Phil... you made some excellent choices. That mahogany really is something else. Do the body sizes feel any different and do you feel the 12 vs 14 fret join affects playability? All the best, marcus

Nice find Keith... only problem is now I've got sore feet, bruised thighs and head spins from too much stomping, thing slapping and twirling around in circles

Glad you enjoyed them Keith. The vocals are indeed very relaxed in these videos. Not quite so chilled on his CDs but definitely in the same vein. Check out "Knuckled Brass and Bone" if you are interested to hear more of his tunes... you can get a sample listen here Cheers, marcus

I was corresponding with scripsit (Kym) recently about his Spira guitar made in Victoria, Australia (not too far from Melbourne). We got around to discussing an Australian folk singer/guitarist called David Ross Macdonald who also used to be the drummer for a band called the Waifs. I own all of David's CD's including an interesting one with instrumental pieces all played on different guitars built by Australian luthiers (it's called Southern Crossing).
I did a bit of a google search and found some great vids he shot in a park not far from where I grew up in Sydney... I used to walk around here sometimes and was even known to roll the arm over in the nets down on the Trumper Park Oval. Here's a link to a couple of these vids... the first one really grabbed me... seeing the young boy checking out David totally unselfconsciously, hearing the Kookaburra laughing in the background, and listening to the music played in a park on a beautiful sunny day. I think David is a great talent. Hope you enjoy this...
