My hands are not very big so I was hoping the neck/fingerboard would have been a little smaller . Re the Celtic knot. We did a spec sheet early on and I included a Celtic knot just as a thought. A possibility. I thought it may be nice but I wasn't really sure. Then Francis made a couple of suggestions. And after a bit of a discussion he then said what about a knot just below the Milsom logo. I thought it looked lovely. Getting excited now . John

I keep saying it to Francis and i'll say it again. I love the lovely warm, reddish hues in the rosewood.

I know nothing about the ins and outs of guitar building. What I do know is, doesn't that lovely, warm coloured rosewood look nice.

Here's the story behind this thread from my standpoint. It's linked in to Pistolpete's thread about how many guitars you own and how many you actually play. I had three guitars, the Fylde Alex, Francis' first build for me (triple 0) and a Stratocaster. About two years ago I decided to buy a third acoustic which I could be more 'relaxed' with. In other words, I wouldn't cry if I dinked it. So I bought a Vintage Gordon Giltrap, an excellent guitar for the money. Then about 12 months ago I bought an Epiphone Sheraton. The idea there was that i'd have a second electric as well with a different sound, different look etc etc. Also I loved the look of them because Beatles used to play them. I'm of that 'vintage' as well . The trouble is I didn't play them. I'd always play either the Fylde or Milsom for acoustic or, if I did play electric (not that often these days) i'd play the Fender. So in Feb I decided that i'd sell both guitars and put the money to one new acoustic which I knew i'd enjoy playing. I decided on a 12 fret parlour to be different from what I already had. But I wanted a good one and none that I wanted came to light. I'd been following Francis' build thread for Andrew's parlour (s). Then I saw another post in the thread and thought 'shall I be a cheeky sod and contact Francis again'. I felt a bit guilty because he'd already built me one guitar and I thought maybe he was busy with other commissions. It turned out that after Andrew's guitar he had no others on the horizon so he agreed to build this one. Francis, as usual, has been incredibly helpful all along as many of you can testify from experience. Of course the idea was that i'd end up with four guitars instead of five. Then Jose comes along and spoils it all by FORCING me to buy one of his. So i'll be back up to five when the parlour is finished. But at least now I know i'll enjoy playing them all. That's the story so far. It's lovely to see a new guitar taking shape and, as things stand at the moment I may even be allowed to drive to Hereford to pick it up John

I've been struggling with DADGAD also. Noodling is good but it's always nice to play an actual tune now and again. A relatively easy one is 'The Butterfly' by Lisa McCormick on youtube. Also the 'Skye Boat Song' by Pat Kirkley.

Bought my first Stratocaster there in 1966 (a 63 model). Sunburst with rosewood fingerboard.
Waiting for the train in Paddington couldn't stand it. So I sat in one of the toilet cubicles playing it. It cost me £147. Sounds a bargain but when your pay is £5 a week ! What is 30 weeks pay now ?
Very sad.
