Congrats. Something like normal. Did our first gig since March last Sunday (pub indoors - much smaller audience obviously, but well socially distanced and enforced. Felt very safe.) Then an acoustic session in another pub on Monday - in an enormous gazebo with light and heat but rain lashing down outside - bit grim but wonderful to see, hear and play with other musicians again. And we actually got to jam! How good did that feel. Voice shot after 2 hours singing on Sunday but worth it.
Can't see much more on the horizon though........

slidingwolf - which particular song, Martin - I'll try putting it here if I can find it and if embedding allowed for it. I like a lot of his stuff! Keith Maybe this might do for now - it's lovely - and has some slidey interest - Hi Keith, Thanks for that. I bow to your superior tech know-how. The one I was looking at was Muddy Waters' Catfish Blues, with no slide (!) But this is fine. He's a very talented bloke. M.

Nah, this isn't right. BoJo hasn't got any sense of timing so his right hand tehcnique would never be that good.

Sounds like you've got the slide bug minorkey Oh definitely Be warned, there's no turning back minorkey, there's no turning back now. Shame that you missed out on the slide workshops I ran a few weeks ago. Then again, I might have put you off completely.

Well I tuned her down to open G and got the glass slide out. Not as easy as I thought because the neck is so wide. But I got better on the second run. I also began to alternate the bass string. This is fun stuff! Sounds like you've got the slide bug minorkey

I often think "Double Dropped D" is much underated D A D G B D It's 4/6ths Standard, 5/6ths Dropped D, 5/6ths DADGAD, 5/6ths Open G Or maybe it's not enough one thing t'other. Do you use that for slide ? I know of players using dropped D for slide.

Ah so DADFAD is Dm. I had no idea... Flattened third makes it minor.
Ah hang on, of course, D chord is DF# A. Dminor is D F A, flattened third.
That's correct. Open D tuning is D A D F sharp A D Open D min is D A D F A D So: Open G is D G D G B D Open G min is D G D G B flat D Have fun !

Had a little go today, combining finger picking with slide, in DADFAD tuning Nice. As you're playing in Dm you might want to have a listen to this:

I have a Wolfram slide - MS - and the damn thing is so heavy I can hardly lift it! That's true. If you are using slide on a regular basis, they are remarkably heavy. Using one on the pinky long term is not really an option IMO. I used use a heavy brass/chrome slide of similar weight, for a time, but after a day's recording it really became uncomfortable.

Hi Matt, well besides Diamond Bottlnecks, where Ian will make you a pretty much custom made glass slide, you could try : www.therockslide.com/rock-slide-sizes/ These are pretty good and you can choose the size you want. Or these Silica Sounds slides which I like a lot: www.wunjoguitars.com/shop/slides/ Again there's a range of sizes to choose from and they are well made. I get what you mean about playing Tampa Red tunes - so rumour has it he used a thick brass ring rather than an actual slide, which is fine for single notes but if you want to move onto other performer's material, you'll need something which will cover all 6 strings. I have stuffed things in slides before but never find it very satisfactory. Also, don't give up on thicker slides. You'll get a much warmer, mellow, "heavier" tone. But it's all personal choice at the end of the day. One slider I know uses a brass slide which he roughs up to get a dirtier tone. Not to my taste but there you go.
