I just love SG basses! I had a 1965 EB-O for over 40 years and for me the sound was the personification of 'bass'. It was Jack Bruce that encouraged me to start playing bass and that was a the start of my quest to find (and afford!) an EB. Your reissue EB-3 looks amazing and have played one of these and they sound really fantastic. The mini humbucker just gives you that bit more versatility too. Great that the bass doesn't neck dive, my EB-O didn't either and I found it a very balanced guitar overall. In recent years I started using Trace Elliot amps again and with a 150 watt head and a HUGE 1x15 Trace cab it could literally rattle your fillings. Hope you get loads of use and pleasure from the new EB-3!

Just to add, the best dealer of Prodipe amps is Oasis Music here in the New Forest. And yes the Natural 6 is very similar to the Acus 6. The Prodipe has a neat little amp stand built in which is cool too. Robbie Yeah, the amp stand is a really nice touch and I wish the Acus had it. It's such a small amp that you really need to elevate it regardless of how you use it.

zimmy . Some great suggestions so far. From experience I'd add that the Laney acoustic amps (A Fresco, Solo and Duo) might be worth a look. Some thoughts that could help when comparing models; all relate to how you propose to use the amp - Is the amp for guitar only, or guitar and vocal? Might you like other inputs occasionally - another mic/inst/Bluetooth etc? Might you wish to use it as a monitor and DI/line out to PA? Might you wish to pole mount it? (You'll need at least to put it on a chair or something.) Would ability to be battery powered be useful? Good luck with your quest! Keith Really good advice Keith. I would add phantom power to that list as I avoided buying the Acus 5 (which did not have phantom power) by the skin of my teeth courtesy of a really knowledgeable sales guy at GAK. I have phantom power on my mic preamp but don't always use it.

I bought myself a second hand Prodipe natural 6. Looks very similar to Acus, sounds as good and a little cheaper. Lovely sound. I did look at Prodpipe before I bought the Acus but couldn't find one anywhere. However, I managed to get a great deal on the Acus which brought the price down below the Prodpipe so that was the decider. Looking at the Natural 6 and the Acus 6T, they not only look identical but the spec is very similar indeed. Seems like the Prodpipe is much cheaper than the Acus so and is a huge bargain at the price given the flexibility of the amp. If I was looking for an acoustic amp now I think I'd check out the Prodpipe before anything else.

Bought an Acus One for Strings 6T last year after doing loads of research and having tried many of the usual suspects (AER etc) prior to buying the Acus I was totally blown away. Made in Italy rather than the far east. I did a bit of a review in the reviews section: acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/13432/acus-strings-6t-acoustic-ampI have used it a lot and no issues whatsoever and I reckon there is more than enough power there to gig it. Also, very compact and lightweight. Good luck!

I love Fast Fret and have used it for ever, however, over the last 5 years or so I had exactly the same issue as NikGnashers with it drying out very rapidly indeed and stopped buying it. However, found some on Amazon about 10-12 months ago at a decent price and thought I'd try it again and.... it has been brilliant. No hint of it drying out and I use it every day, sometimes multiple times. I have tried the Daddario XLR8, this being the only alternative I could find, and it was useless. It arrived fairly 'dry' and after a few weeks just binned it, total waste of time. Maybe I had old stock or a bad batch but suspect not.....

Thought I'd update this and confirm that I ended up with a Gravity boom mic stand. Many thanks to gsans for putting the idea in my head, I'd never heard of Gravity and it turns out they are really well made, solid stands and not that expensive either. Just over £40 delivered. Also many thanks for PistolPete for suggesting a solid steel base rather than a tripod; not a big fan of tripod stands and found a Gravity stand with a solid base and there is no chance it's going to tip with a large mic on the boom. The base weighs 3.5 Kg and stays glued to the floor. I can heartily recommend this stand, it's a Gravity MS2322B. Can't find any issues with it at all.

Both bass a gig bag look amazing. I'm a big fan of semi-acoustic basses, just adds another element to the sound. I know you mentioned you now play short scale basses, is this one a short scale? Having played P basses for decades I eventually tried a 32" scale and then a 30" scale due to arthritis in my hands; found it a big adjustment but definitely worth it. The lower string tension and the more compact body/neck made life so much easier.
Just wondering if the Guild gives you a Precision type sound with the split pickup? Also, is it a semi or a hollow body?
I imagine the Guild would be perfect in a 60s band and certainly looks the part. Enjoy!

I've got a Gravity stand which I like, it's solid and seems well-made, think it's this one or something similar. Never heard of these but the stand in the link looks like it is really excellent quality. At over 4Kg they are a decent weight and the clamp and the foot at the base look really rugged. Great suggestion thank you!

I've got four given to me by a fellow muso who moved to the US . They are at least fifty years old and solid as rocks, but H-E-A-V-Y! Thing is, I don't use 'em any more. He also gave me a simple straight up stand with a cast iron base. I only use a single large condenser nowadays. I would love to find an old and heavy stand as virtually everything seems to be designed around being lightweight. I'd much prefer a hefty boom stand that just didn't move rather than an ultralight modern stand that falls over if you look at it. I occasionally use an SE2200 condenser and although not massive or particularly heavy most of the boom arms I've owned have struggled to keep the mic aloft.

Hercules or Quiklok have always proved reliable for me.. I've never had a Hercules but I've been using Quiklok stuff for as long as they've been around and it is superb quality. However, did an in-depth search for QL boom stands today and came up with absolutely nothing in the UK. I will have anther look at Hercules and thanks fir the nod!

Just about to buy yet another tripod boom mic stand and am determined that this time I will buy something that will last more than 5 minutes. Be really grateful for any advice. Using for mic'ing an acoustic and currently tend to use a Sure SM57 but do on occasions use a fairly large condenser mic so ideally looking for a stand that will cope with a slightly heavier mic that won't fall over as soon as you look at it!

Hi nixsbee, like you, I have settled on 11s due to dodgy arthritic hands and I really don't think I'd ever go back to 12s or 13s again. So many benefits with lighter gauge strings. I have now settled firmly on DR Sunbeams (11-50) as being the best out there, for me anyway. They last for ages and also, like the Newtones, have a round core. It was a toss up between Newtone Masterclass 11-50 and the DR Sunbeams. The DRs ended up being better for me as they had slightly higher tension than the Masterclass equivalent. The high E and B on the Masterclass 11-50s just felt a little too light. This was a thread I started ages ago on the subject and got some really interesting and helpful comments: acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/12783/altered-string-gauge-tension-strings

lavaman surfguy13 shufflebeat Thanks for the advice guys - here's an update. There was no budging the mic - I tried everything and ended up with it clamped in the vice while I attacked it with pipe dogs. Nothing moving so I attacked it (carefully) with the Hacksaw to gain entry to the battery compartment. Sure enough the batteries had leaked and the inside was like a dried out snow globe. Cleaned it up but just crackles when plugged in on both battery and phantom power. The reason I went for a battery powered condenser is due to my acoustic amp not having phantom power. Not wanting battery mic again so I have ordered a budget dynamic mic (which will do as a spare/emergency mic) and take some time to research a decent mic in the meantime. At least you know now and regardless of what you tried nothing was going to work. Yes, I nearly bought an acoustic amp a few months ago that didn't have phantom power and at the last minute realised so went for the next model up and I am so pleased I did so. My mic preamp has phantom power but sometimes you just want to plug in and play without the faff. Good luck with the new mic!

Congratulations on a very fine looking Firebird. I am massively impressed with the finish......not a big fan of satin but that cherry sunburst is just fantastic. Also nice to be able to buy a guitar made in blighty rather than the US of A!
