an unfortunate meeting of pliers and right hand finger tips has left finger-style guitar playing pretty well impossible. Mark Ouch! Hope that sorts itself out soon, Mark..

That's one avenue of acquisition slammed shut on me then. Still, nice to know you can still make friends - even if they have to pay you to pretend they like you. Bastard.

Welcome aboard, winger2. Martin's suggestions seem to offer sensible, and cheaper, options... or, of course, since you're just starting out, you could swap to any of the instruments for which that wrist flexibility isn't so crucial - banjo, mandolin, bouzouki, ukulele

What else do you have that looks/sound like a slope-shouldered Gibbo? That Taylor looks nice, of course it does, but, y'know...

I seem to remember (from the dim and distant past) that davewhite had one of his geetars 'fine-art'ed by Peter Cree... This project ' Art On A Ukulele' seems to be something similar - except that it's a kickstarter-type campaign supported by, and involving, the Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain, Pete Howlett and various artists. I'm not sure if that make it more noteworthy or less... anyways, it's a fun little project by the look of it.

Lovely is that, dreadnought28 . As it's a demo...I thought the guitar was a little too 'backgroundish', I'd've liked it to be a bit more prominent in the mix.

Chin up, Rob...as you say, it looks like a guitar, hopefully it'll sound like a guitar and, as with ducks, that means it'll be a guitar. And, if it doesn't, congratulations on inventing a brand new instrument

I'm not able to go this year (as I'm on the other side of the world) but I really do recommend this to anyone who has even a vague interest in acoustic music. You get the chance to properly meet and talk to the 'acts' and there's some proper nice folk in the audience, too. I reckon it's where I first met Riverman, amongst others... Accommodation does get booked up fairly quickly, though, so you'd best get it sorted quickly!

Nah. Like I said somewhere in my post I just don't have the bottle to play 'em unless I'm thinking of buying 'em. That's what Halifax is for

I had a meeting this morning in Southport which finished early (mostly because we DIDN'T NEED A BLOODY MEETING IN THE FIRST SODDING PLACE) ermm....sorry... just needed to get that off my chest. Anyway, wanting to make sure that I got full value for my car park ticket I took the opportunity to have a wander along Lord Street. I've not shopped in Southport for ages and it was, mostly, the same old stuff - shoe shops, cafes, chain store stuff but there IS The Wayfarer's Arcade which is a little oasis of small shops; jewellers and the like, so I popped in. Last time I was there the upper tier of shops was mostly empty but is now almost fully let. What used to be a bookshop is now Dad's Guitars
The window suggested a mix of acoustic and electrics so I thought I'd have a peek in. Well, you can't sneak in - instead of a bell, the owner has suspended an acoustic guitar from the ceiling - with a plectrum attached to the door so that when you open it the guitar gets strummed. Nice idea for customers, but I bet the owner wishes he'd stuck with a bell The shop sells new and used instruments. MOST of the new instruments are at the '£500 and under' end of the market with the more expensive acoustics being pre-owned (with a few exceptions - mostly Martins.) Owner was nice and chatty - but, not having the brass neck of you lot, I didn't try any out as I was not thinking of buying. Indeed, so uncomfortable did I feel about just browsing that I did my usual 'buy a thumb pick to assuage my guilt' thing. I asked for permission to take pics of a few of the instruments (nothing electric, obviously, I'm not a monster, nor any of the 'folk' instruments - though there's a good stock of ukuleles on display) 3 guitars in particular caught my eye: A 1975 12-string Fylde Prospero (so old it didn't have Roger's usual decal on the headstock) for just over £1k A lovely Redwood/Walnut Avalon (I'm still deeply in love with the one I'm minding for scorpiodog although, at a shade under £2.5K, this one was out of my grasp!) A 2010 Gibbo J45 in tobacco sunburst at a shade under £1500. I was drawn to it for no other reason that it's a Gibbo J45 in tobacco sunburst. At some stage I'm going to have to buy a slope-shouldered Gibson dread. I just am. Anyway, if you're ever passing, do pop in to Dad's Guitars and have a look around

Have a word with francis - I think you might be surprised that you can get a luthier-built guitar, and have input into the design and choice of woods, all within your price range. Of course, you'll have to wait a bit because it doesn't exist yet, and isn't off the shelf - but it'll be worth it... just send Francis a PM (and we, and you, get to watch it being built on a build thread!)

Cracking review, that, Bob. Sounds like you had to work a little bit to get the sound you wanted but that the effort was worthwhile. It's good to know that the iRig gives you those options
