I'm a big fan of Ron, see him live many times. When he tours down under he tends to leave his band at home and just play with his Taylor guitar and is magical. One of the best times I saw him was the night before I got married at the Blue Mountains Blues Festival.

Ukes are great. My 4 month old son loves it when I play uke. I have had a tenor fluke for years but recently upgraded to a Clancy concert sized uke. Craig Clancy is an Aussie Luther check out Clancy stringed instruments on Facebook.

I play a Tim kill weissenborn (Aussie builder). Mine is all mahogany and I use a tribotone bar. I use John Pearce open g and d strings.
Goldtone make weissenborn in your budget.
Have you thought about using a regular acoustic with a nut riser to play lap style like Kelly joe phelps does? I did that for a while before I bought my Weiss.
Checkout Jeff Lang on YouTube or Thomas Oliver for some great Weiss players.

The Townes van zandt album live at no quarter in Houston is one of the best records I own. Recommended to all fans of great acoustic music.

I tried different strings but I always end up back with ej16's or John Pearce phosphorous bronze. Not a fan of coated strings.Though one if my guitars works best with 80/20's. I use John Pearce opens d or g strings for my weissenborn.

I picked up the Santa Cruz used last year. It's their standard 00 with stika top and mahogany back and sides. Bought on eBay from a guitar shop in Florida and it made it safely to Sydney. It's short scale and a great roots guitar. I would love to try the Eric Skye model, as I really like his music. My Bashkin I commissioned. It's a long scale deeper body and redwood top and mahogany back and sides, I've had it two years and its the best guitar I own. It really works well in dadgad and open c turnings. I have a Bashkin OM as well which I've had 7 years. Check his website out I think he makes great guitars.

I have two 12 fret 00's a traditional one by Santa Cruz and a modern take by Michael Bashkin. Both have slot heads.

I've ordered the vinyl! I've seen Will live about five times , 4 playing guitar with Lambchop and once playing lead for Kort. He's equally at home on acoustic or with his telecaster.
