Grayn - it's so fantastic that you are putting up these reviews and that they are not lost... I'm enjoying reading them. Real reviews by real players, not the type one reads in a magazine where there is probably some ulterior-motive. Have you tried to fit that in to a tweat or a status update on Facebook? (Please excuse my facetiousness aimed at Acoustic magazine.)

'Anchored' suggests that you are actually improving the agility of the fingers, when in actual fact you are limiting their movement - just try it, hold all four fingers on a table, lift off your three fingers (i,m,a) wiggle them with the pinkie still on the table. Then try it with all fingers off the table. Which feels more comfortable, which allows more movement of the fingers?
Anchoring on the strings is another matter and can be very useful, but never anchoring the pinkie (the way the tendons work, it will always restrict your finger movement). So, flamenco players will anchor the thumb on the 6th string when playing a rasguedo or using the index and middle to pick. And when using the thumb for a falseta, lead line, whatever, on the bass strings, the fingers can anchor on the top strings.
The golden rule is to limit stress on the tendons and ligaments of the hand/fingers and to try to work within the limits of what it can comfortably do.

Hi Grayn - good to see you again.
I thought I recognised that wood, the same as on my old Revell.
It looks a stunning guitar... great to see you back into acoustics. I've just flogged all my acoustics for a strat!

I watch C à Vous almost every day, missed that one - his voice has a similar timbre to his dad's and some of the harmonies are very Lennon. I see his godfather is Elton John Jonny

It was a pleasure doing it Martin.
Helen took the inspiration from Shona's and Martin's initial ideas - but due to the limitations of the words, fonts and space/shape they needed to fill the designs evolved to what we have now.
A bit stylish, a bit raw and a bit green!
Glad you like it.

But the big question - who stocks Newtones?

That really is a stunning case, very cool, especially with the tartan... am I right in thinking Robertson tartan? I recognise it from a kilt you wore (no I'm not a stalker!).
I understand what you say about heavy cases... the case that came with the Kostal is heavier than my Calton, I couldn't believe it. When I spoke to Jason about the case I said to him I was happy to have an old battered Calton, but it had to be: new guitar = new case.
Sadly not a Hoffee Dave - that was a huge upcharge and in any case (?) I'm not a rock star.
So it's the Ameritage, made of plywood and lead to balance the weight head to toe. Far too big and far too heavy, but protects well - we'll have long arms Martin!

Cheers bluesboytoby. Here's the headstock and bridge design. Headstock shape due to the diamond theme and the bridge shaped like the one I made on my classical, nicked from Kohno, but elegant and also in keeping with the diamonds. Jonny

Something I'm looking forward to is walking into a shop and being able to play guitars, look at a shelf and buy some music or strings... not easy to do that in this part of France. Well, it is possible, but everything is hugely overpriced and the sales people have all trained at the same service school where the customer is to be treated as badly as possible.
Good plug Martin - surprised it's not sold already being a great guitar at a silly price.
Oasis is one I'd like to visit - won't be too far and I have family nearby. I always go to Ivor Mairantz when I'm in London, but, to be honest Robbie, not had great service, but that is great service in comparison with here, so that's not a problem as they usually have some interesting guitars.
Good heads up about Fine Guitars in Abingdon - I popped in when I was there a few months ago. They have some great guitars made to their spec in a small workshop in China. All around the 1k price and far better sound and quality than lots of their sole luthier guitars. We chatted about teaching in the area, so they may remember me, but I won't be back till after the summer.
I thought Trevor TAMCO may be around... Jason Kostal, if he doesn't mind me quoting him, believes TAMCO to be unique in the world - huge choice of fine guitars, open to the public without an appointment, unlike other similar shops (in the US). I'm looking forward to visiting.

Not sure I'm much help either, but I know that a PA can give the clarity of sound an amp will struggle with - it's not necessarily about volume in my experience. In a packed small space, this is important - also get the sound to be at head level and above, not aimed at bodies.
I have a Yamaha Stagepas 500 which is 250 watts - the sound is very clear at all volumes. The reverb is very poor, so I plug in to my Trace and use the reverb on that and also use it as a type of monitor... there are probably simpler ways to do this, Keith will know.
I'm guessing renting will be a better option as if you buy one you'll get what you pay for. I see there is a music shop in Pembroke, there used to be a good one in Haverfordwest, gone now I think.
Much more fun arranging the music than the cake!

So, where should I go when I return to the UK and why? The special ones... service, after sales, bargains, decent stock.
Be a good resource too.

I've just commented over there...
All publicity is good publicity - I find it sad that he met many of you and you made music together.

Lots of guitarists seem to be interested in hi-fi Robbie, I suppose there is a correlation there - I also have a collection of amps, receivers, cd players and too many speakers; I also have some Arcam stuff and know Ian has too. I agree with you about hi-fi enthusiasm - that energy is best spent on guitars.
Ian - The photographic evidence suggests you didn't drink anything. But what's all the tea business about? I've been away from the UK far too long to understand drinking tea.
