I once had a go on a cello, my nephew brought one to his house. I picked it up and played 3 blind mice off the top of my head. The floor upstairs was bare-lord knows how loud it must have sounded downstairs!

Check out the articles linked above, Larry. They explain it as best I've seen. Thanks Martin. So its basically a regular banjo with a wooden resonator and 3 wire strings, one gut, one silk covered.

so what differentiates it-whats the zither part? Im familiar with a zither, it was used as the Harry Lime theme but thats an instrument where the strings are pluckrd or tapped with thin hammers I think.

I do love me some slide, and earlier I was using my glass slide on the Tanglewood in open G. Fabulous but its tricky muting the strings aft of the fret as you play. Now of course slide is a form of portamento or glissando, and Im familiar with that from my time playing with my brothers analog synths years ago! (had one myself for a while)

This Irish guitarist/composer is one to watch out for, and I love this piece, here played on a Takamine classical.

Is it tuned differently to a regular banjo?
