Just had a reply from Guy in which he explains that there is a brand new enhanced website not tied to the previous server which hosted the Forum. He says that a decision was made not to continue with the Forum, which has now been closed. He wishes to encourage continued use of social media eg Facebook and Twitter in order to maintain interaction.
He also expressed thanks to all of us for our long term participation in the Forum.

Well that's a massive piss take. Entirely unprofessional, yet not out of character.

Oh well, so long and thanks for all the fish. It will be remembered fondly as the site that brought us all together in the first place.

I cannot believe there wasn't any notice! If this board didn't exist all of the friendships made on the forum could have been ended - just like that!
I'm going to buy two copies of Acoustic Guitar this month

Tossed out on Pancake Day - if they had any class they would have waited until Thursday for a St Valentine's Day Massacre. You can tell that they are professionals in the communication industry. Onwards and upwards I say - let's make Acoustic Soundboard a great magazine as well as the best acoustic forum. At least we know which Forum HB4 will be organised around.

Shoddy and careless. By all means, close the forum if it is too difficult or costly to maintain, or if you can't be bothered to transfer it to the new server as seems to have been the case, but to do it without notice, without giving the members the opportunity to make alterative arrangements first? Yes we have this forum, but there was no driving necessity to join here while Acousticlife was running, and so many didn't, and now we may have lost touch with them.
I'm not sure that Guy and Blaze Publishing are aware that there are up to 100 magazine readers who used the forum regularly, and hundreds more who just dropped in from time to time, or simply lurked. What does this say to them? I don't feel like a valued customer now at the way this has come about.
What a shame.

Given that "Slash" is the current face of "Acoustic"Mag this news shouldn't come as any surprise really.
It is so sad that a huge volume of fantastic reference material has just been axed without notice...it will also be interesting to hear Paul B's take on this.
Let's hope that the less regular posters...I'm thinking Fliss , Gecko etc find their way here.

Well it must have been on the cards given our answers to March's question ... I don't reckon these answers will make it into the mag. Given that the forum was such an important part of the mag and it grass roots to a certain extent, I can't believe it will go without a word - well I can believe it but surely there must be contributors to the mag that are miffed at the nature of its demise.
We are where we are and as Dave said lets get this forum going, I wouldn't be too chuffed if I missed my main means of contact with a wing bunch of musicians that has resulted in real life, non virtual meetings music and friendships.

............ Let's hope that the less regular posters...I'm thinking Fliss , Gecko etc find their way here. That's my main concern too Andrew. Martin and I are on the case and have/will be emailing those we can. It won't make any difference, but it would be good if as many folk as poss could email the mag or even write to them to express their feelings at the Forum closure. Keith

Hardly surprising and entirely consistent. Thank heaven for the forethought of those who set up this forum.
Hope we can keep Paul Brett involved, too.
Don't suppose there is any chance of the Mag signposting the Acoustic Soundboard as a small gesture to their subscribers and others they have unceremoniously dumped in favour of Soshal Medja (sic, or should it be sick?).
If the decline in the mag continues (last months long puff for the well-known acoustic band Fleetwood Mac, disingenuous info-mercials with the emphasis on the "mercial"...) I shall have no problem not renewing my subscription.

Yes Paul will hopefully be involved - he registered here some while ago and we have been closely and frequently in contact over this issue. I have also put a link to this Forum on the Acoustic Mag Facebook page. BTW, thanks Martin for stickying this thread. Keith

Has anybody an idea where I can get a smiley showing the middle finger ?
Well, come to think of it, maybe this is the best thing that could happen.
What we now have is
1) an absolutely independent forum
2) admins and mods who are not only cappable of, but also having access to properly working mod tools
3) no headaches or trouble caused by invisble server-dwarves
4) a (at least in my opinion) nice forum layout
5) no need to buy a magazine simply out of gratitude for providing us with a forum plattform
6) an up-to-date forum software
Not such a bad trade, I guess.

Well I would take a pragmatic approach and use the Acoustic Mag facebook page to keep this new forum well connected - nothing wrong with socmed ... it aint a forum, but is really useful.

Well I think some thank you's are in order here.
The first to Martin (Scanbran ) who had the prescience to start this forum. secondly to Keef (O'Caloran) who need I remind you was the senior and only Global Moderator on the Acoustic forum, commiserations to him also as he has lost his job and is going to be down the social Friday. The only jobs bigger than a global mod are Head of the United Nations, Manager of England and The Pope.
Come to think of it Keith I think that playing guitar at Church parade on Sundays might of come in handy if you catch my drift.
I have already decided to cancel my Acoustic sub. Much as I like Fleetwood Mac they are not an acoustic band I can see were Blaze are going with this next month it will be the Tremeloes or the falsetto harmonies on traditional folk songs of the Partridge family.
Whilst they magazine gave no warning about what was going to happen with the forum I think we are all grown up enough to see what was going to happen.
I shall email SD and SW and enough of us are in touch with others to keep it bubbling over.
see you soon guys and gals. whoops
