Whilst they magazine gave no warning about what was going to happen with the forum I think we are all grown up enough to see what was going to happen. I would agree that those of us who communicate regularly about such things had more than an inkling something was on the cards, but to do this without notice has potentially left hundreds of infrequent forum visitors and lurkers without a point of contact. With some notice, perhaps we could at least have tried to notify everyone in a more formal THIS IS HAPPENING sort of way. That is the reason I'm upset about this. Thoe closure was perhaps inevitable eventually, and could have happened when the previous publisher got into trouble.

+1 Martin.
Although I have pointed out the extreme discourtesy of the manner in which AL was closed, I have tempered my fury somewhat in my initial response to Guy as I have also included what I hope is a polite request that the Forum be reinstated for a short while as a resource, not open to new posts, but with an explanation regarding closure, and with a prominent link to here.
Don't hold your breath.

Although a member who only occasionally dipped in and out of the forum, I still considered it a very special place to visit, and I've made (and met) so many super people/friends! A sad day!
Thanks to Martin and Keith for all their hard work and commitment.

It's very disappointing, isn't it?
However we felt that the Acousticlife community was too onerous for the chaps for sometime now. The fact that we have survived onto another forum format is heartening.
Thank you for the news

Thanks guys for letting us all know what the status is. I too am disappointed that they gave absolutely no notice of this, it just seems so inconsiderate when all the people on the AL forum were so totally dedicated to it.
So, let,s move on and make THIS forum the best one around, and hope that we can get in contact with all the previous members. Many many Thanks to Martin and Keith for all the tremendous wotk that they do.

Well, come to think of it, maybe this is the best thing that could happen. What we now have is 1) an absolutely independent forum 2) admins and mods who are not only cappable of, but also having access to properly working mod tools 3) no headaches or trouble caused by invisble server-dwarves 4) a (at least in my opinion) nice forum layout 5) no need to buy a magazine simply out of gratitude for providing us with a forum plattform 6) an up-to-date forum software Not such a bad trade, I guess. Hear, hear to all that. A very good trade indeed: a win for the forces of integrity, efficiency amd support for acoustic enthusiasts everywhere, and a dead loss for the Mag. Three cheers for the Acoustic Soundboard and all who sail with it, and let the Mag go to the blazes. Brian
