Thanks for the kind words Pete, and to all who have expressed similar - it is a pleasure to help facilitate the coming together of such a great group of people, and it would be a real shame to lose that community. Welcome to you too Larry - glad you found your way here alright My thanks to you too Paul B for your efforts at juggling your professional work and relationship with the magazine and our little forum group at the same time. Although I feel somewhat aggrieved at how the shutdown was handled, I'll probably still keep buying the magazine anyway as it's the best of what's available for what I want. I'm delighted to hear you'll be pitching up here Paul with the rest of us and I hope we can all develop this place into what Acousticlife used to be, but with better software

Quite a startling piece of PR from Blaze!
Oddly, I thought they had finally sorted some of their technical problems - after the recent "lost week", I found that the site actually remembered my password when logging in, which it hadn't done for months.
Very happy to be registered here now though.
Cheers

Warm welcomes to Paul, Larry (minorkey) and Joe (mikefs) - so glad to see you made it into the lifeboat - the more rowers the better!

+1 Martin. Although I have pointed out the extreme discourtesy of the manner in which AL was closed, I have tempered my fury somewhat in my initial response to Guy as I have also included what I hope is a polite request that the Forum be reinstated for a short while as a resource, not open to new posts, but with an explanation regarding closure, and with a prominent link to here. Don't hold your breath. Keith No response from Guy to my request I'm afraid. Keith

Given that "Slash" is the current face of "Acoustic"Mag this news shouldn't come as any surprise really. It is so sad that a huge volume of fantastic reference material has just been axed without notice...it will also be interesting to hear Paul B's take on this. Let's hope that the less regular posters...I'm thinking Fliss , Gecko etc find their way here. I must admit that was my first impression when i saw the new front cover...Slash!!! possibly the most over rated guitarist ever, and not exactly known for his acoustic side , more a Marshall stack and a Les Paul . Ive not bought this months copy neither will i be . From now on ill just buy it when theres something of interest within its pages . I have however said within the mags facebook page that to close the forum without notice is disgusting . It will i fear fall on deaf ears anyway as i dont think they will give a damn about me or the thoughts of a few others . As long as we all stick together and try to get the rest of AL onboard , it will thrive and maybe some of the lurkers on the old forum will feel more at ease in posting up . One thing i shall really miss as i referred to it loads was the 12 string resource . Heres to a new beginning and a happier better run forum . BR Derek.

So it's come to this... Great work guys Haven't been too active recently but kept an eye on the unmentionable forum from time to time. Been really busy with work and a band I've joined. Planning an album this year, so busy writing and rehearsing. Electric, unfortunately so acoustic taking a back seat in the meantime

So glad you've found us Shane - welcome!! Glad you're keeping busy musically, and hope that the lovely Orsino gets an airing at least now again in between the electric moments. Keith

Welcome to everybody from the old place Has there been any reply from Acoustic Magazine about the lack of notice?? No, there hasn't Ross. I'm going to resend my queries again right now. Also, various comments on the closure keep disappearing from the Mag F/B page....Mind you, there's still a fair few there that I'm surprised haven't been deleted. Keith

I have now had a reply from Guy regarding the lack of notice of AL closure. In his reply he was gracious enough to express sincere apologies for the lack of warning and is pleased to note that we have an alternative Forum. The new website has a new server, and on its startup, the old site, along with the Forum disappeared - as we well know.
I have not quoted his email directly, at his request, but hope I have conveyed the essence of it satisfactorily.
Please also be aware that I have now removed the quoted email from the beginning of this thread, again by request, and replaced it with a paraphrase of the necessary information.

As I said, Guy is/ was a supporter of the forum and the decision to close it was probably not his. None of the Blaze publications have forums and are all linked to social media. In that case, they believe that forums are outdated and that social media is the way forward and cheaper to run. That's probably the gist of the decision taken by Blaze. Whether this is beneficial or harmful to the sales of the magazine only time will tell, but the positive thing to emerge is that Martin and Keith had the foresight to create a back up forum so now it's upto everyone on here to help in growing members. A Phoenix rising from the ashes if you like. I'll do what I can to help.

A Phoenix rising from the ashes if you like. I'll do what I can to help. Paul Brett This is helpful to know and explains much. I can now see why Guy could not perhaps be more forthcoming. Personally, I think the obsession with social media is misplaced, for reasons rehearsed above. Methinks the AF publishers understimate the 'maturity' ( and thus attention span!) of many of its readers. We all hoped that Blaze would be a lifebelt for the Mag; I fear it may - to strain the nautical metaphor - instead have openned the seacocks. I am delighted though that you have made the virtual journey to this Forum. The Phoenix can now continue to soar! Brian
