So many to choose from. I definitely prefer wood bodied resonators. These days I'm liking the sound of spider cones more than biscuits, even for blues. Perhaps I'm mellowing out. I'd have a look at Beard resonators. slidingwolf might be able to point you in that direction.

I can never remember what strings I’d put on each guitar or how long they’d been on so I created a spreadsheet to remind me.
Over the years my most common strings have been D’Addario EJ16s (12-53 phosphor bronze) because they last a reasonable time, sound ok, and they’re inexpensive when you buy the multi-packs.
Currently, I’m using D’Addario Nickel Bronze strings. I have the balanced tension set on my 00-18V and they sound warm and even, but they are a little quiet. Very comfortable to play too. The gauges are 12, 16, 22, 30, 39, 52 so its like light gauge on the outside and extra light in the middle.
I tried D’Addario Nickel Bronze 11’s on my Eastman OM as I found EJ16s were a bit stiff and hard to play. I guess that’s because it has an Adirondack top. At first I thought the NB strings sounded a bit weak, but they’re growing on me.

You've uncovered some glorious grain there. Are you going to stain it?

But I like what the great American fingerstyle player Ed Gerhard said--"You start out playing the guitar to get girls and end up talking to middle-aged men about their fingernails." Time for me to join the debate. I used to have wonderfully strong nails but over the last couple of months they've become brittle and started to split longitudinally towards the cuticle. I've also developed longitudinal ridges which I guess is a weak point. Mrs lavaman says it's 'cause I'm getting old but I wonder if its related to my covid infection last March. I found this thread very informative and 2 weeks ago I started using Sally Hanson diamond strength nail hardner along with a nail and cuticle oil from Superdrug. It's working! I've had no new splits and last night played a gig without worrying if my nails would last the evening. Many thanks to those who contributed to this thread. Iain

The AKG C1000S was the first mic I bought. I normally use it with phantom power but if I have to use the battery I take it out afterwards and keep it in the box. I reckon these mics are more rugged than most so I'd advise you to use more force / torque to separate the two parts and look inside. The batteries may well have leaked onto the on/off switch. If so you might be able to clean or bypass the switch.
Regarding replacement mics, you're spoilt for choice and most budget mics will give very good results. I mostly use Rode and sE mics as they deliver a good sound for the money. For budget LDC mics I'd look at Rode NT1, AT2020, and sE X1. For SDC look Rode NT5, and whatever sE make.
good luck Iain

I like his vibrato and singing. These days I prefer to hear blues played on a spider bridge reso rather than a biscuit.

Lots of great slide players already mentioned. One not mentioned is Dave Gilmour.
If you like slide I recommend you have a listen to Tom Doughty.
edit - I forgot Harry Manx

Sadly, we've had to postpone this gig due to covid. We're all keen to reschedule, and hope to arrange a new date soon. Meanwhile, good health to the Lowings family. Iain

Friday 8th July, I'll be supporting folk artist Kim Lowings. Kim has a fantastic voice and is a mean piano player and master of the mountain dulcimer. The venue is St Mary's Creative Space in Chester CH1 2DW. Its a converted church with wonderful acoustics. I'll be playing my most recent songs and a little bit of blues. Be great to welcome any forum members. Tickets from sound_box@live.co.uk www.facebook.com/SoundBoxChester/Iain Attachments:
