The Recording King ROS 616 is a superb guitar for the money, I also love 12 fretters with wide nuts and string spacing. Yeah, it's insanely good for what I paid: £340 new, I think it was, back in 2013. I've taken it to guitar shows and compared it to OMs by Collings, Lowden etc and preferred the ROS's sound and playability. Of course, I'm not really comparing like with like, because I've never found an all-solid mahogany OM 12-fretter to compare it to. If there were an equivlant made by Fylde or whoever then it might be a different kettle of fish. I rarely take the ROS616 out to gigs now cos its finish is so light it gets nicks like it was a wet painting - one of the reasons I bought the ROS16 (to be a knockabout guitar I wouldn't need to treat with kid gloves). I'm probably going to sell the 16 now that I've got the cheap-as-chips Harley Benton hog lam parlour: now that is another great guitar for the cash. I don't need two 'beater' guitars and the Harley Benton is surprisingly responsive for a £150 guitar. If you like the ROS616 but have never tried the RK Nick Lucas models, then I wholeheartedly recommend them. They are in my opinion the other jewel in the Recording King crown. One of the most comfortable necks I've ever played and a distinctive sound that sounds to my ears somewhere in between a parlour and a Gypsy jazz guitar: they manage to be simultaneously quite mellow and yet have that jazzy bite to them. You can still find them at some online shops even though they're not made anymore.

Out of the ludicrous collection of guitars I am the owner of there are 10 that I keep out of their cases and play a lot. I just checked and it’s a 50/50 split between 12 and 14 frets. I’d not thought of counting before so it’s not deliberate. Not sure what that tells us but my ears are reasonable judges of the sounds that appeal to me.

All that matters to me is playability and sound. I’ve played great 12 frets and great 14 frets. Oddly, 13 frets seem to disorientate me a little!

I don't need two 'beater' guitars and the Harley Benton is surprisingly responsive for a £150 guitar. I've been thinking of picking up one of those. Sorry for the questions but what's the neck profile like of the Harley Benton? What's the string spacing at the saddle like as well? Thanks.
