It's early demo versions of what would become Blood on the Tracks, a bit more stripped back but in my view a better album. And coincidentally DJ Random is now playing Simple Twist of Fate

Here's a couple: In a world of steel-eyed death, and men who are fighting to be warm "Come in", she said, "I'll give ya - shelter from the storm" (Shelter from the Storm - Bob Dylan) and ocarolan will know whether the was Lennon or McCartney 'She was just seventeen, you know what I mean' (I saw her standing there) McCartney The song was indeed very much a Paul song, though John did change/refine a line or two here and there. "Well she was just seventeen..." McCartney "...you know what I mean,.." Lennon, who reputedly didn't care for Paul's "...never been a beauty queen..". But anyway, the first line of the song, written by neither of them, was surely "One, two, three, four!" Keith

I was reminded today of Louden Wainright III:
“Who’s afraid of flying, I am just afraid of crashing”.
“You used to say I came too early but it was you who came too late”
“Oh when I die and it won't be long, hey you're gonna be sorry that you treated me wrong”
“I'm a table with two legs, I'm a spider with five, I'm going down slow muse, when will you arrive?”
I vividly recall seeing him at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1976 - a lifetime ago (odd how that event remains fresh in my mind whet I can’t remember what I did yesterday) As a newcomer to draught Guinness, he embraced it with great enthusiasm!

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer I was taken by a photograph of you There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more But they didn't show your spirit quite as true You were turning 'round to see who was behind you And I took your childish laughter by surprise And at the moment that my camera happened to find you There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

How about some particularly poignant ones .....
Here's the last lines from Sandy's 'No More Sad Refrains'; I find this very moving and brings a tear as it was written not too long before she died. It was meant to be her telling herself to pull herself together, but ended differently ...
I'll be smiling all the time at everybody, My friends will tell me I'm just not the same I won't linger over any tragedies that were, And I won't be singing any more sad refrains

John Prine?
"I s'pose I should have beat up that feller, but it was her that hopped into his car. Many times I had sought to protect her, but this time she was going too far." The Great Compromise.
TVZ (another line from Pancho and Lefty)
"His horse was fast as polished steel"
Tom Waits
"But it's so hard to dance that way when it's cold and there's no music." Hold On

So, I headed down to Nashville To become a country star Every night you'd find me hangin' At every honky-tonk and bar
Pretty soon I met a woman Pretty soon she done me wrong Pretty soon my life got sadder Than any country song

"Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk with you again..." Sound of Silence, Paul Simon
"...And where I thought that just plucking the fruits of the bed was enough, it grew to be less like fucking and more like making love..." Love Chronicles, Al Stewart

Like a baby stillborn, like a beast with its horn I have torn everyone who reached out for me.
We are ugly but we have the music.
All my friends are gone and my hair is grey I ache in the places that I used to play.
