Ok bud thanks for that - you'll have to post some of your banjo playing in the plucky duck Phil, though you might be interested to know that Pete ( walkingdecay ) is actually the Founder and inspiration behind our virtual folk club in its previous incarnation on the Forum which gave birth to this one. I'm sure you'll get to hear some of his banjo(and mandolin and guitar and slide guitar) playing plus amazing songwriting and singing at some stage! You'll find at least some if you explore the back pages of the Plucky Duck. keith nice one keith, will def have a look back at the older plucky duck pages for sure...... I'd better watch my P's n Q's if i'm mixing with the big wigs round here

@ Martin - yeah I am gonna stick to original plan to go on the sunday to see Jake Shimabukuro, I might not get another chance to see him live, don't think he plays over here much if at all, whereas Dan Walsh does tour the UK so can look out for him at a later date So I spent about an hour in Eagle Music with the owner talking a bit of Banjo, but also got talking to another customer in there too who frail's his banjo, he and his wife are retired and go round gigging all over the shop, he plays she sings, and blow me they play regular along with others at a pub about 15mins from me at the 'folk club' ....they told me to go down next week and have a listen.....how weird was that I do like the sound and feel of the Goodtime 2, much better than the cheaper brand, cant remember the name tbh other than they are made in china costing 2-300 quid........ another one is the Goodtime Carolina King and the Goodtime leader , more expensive, but much better specification, only difference between these 2 is the CK has capo spikes at certain frets, the Leader doesn't, other than that everything is identical - so is it better to have the spikes or not, or doesn't matter? Enjoyed the visit, got a cake and was offered coffee, blimey how many shops does that happen in these days I must admit I do like these Deering's PS - forgot to mention the couple I was talking to in the shop said to get a ticket for weds night as a guy called Nick Dow is playing which will draw the crowd....not heard of him myself, any of you guys heard of him...is it worth a look in??

Hello Phil. If you are close to Eagle you should also take a look at The Music Room in Cleckheaton. I have an interest there because that's where my recording studio is housed but it is independent of the shop. Jonny Hulme is the 5 string banjo wizard there and he would be pleased to advise you and show you what they have in stock. Happy hunting!

Hi Phil,
I can only echo what Martin says, he knows much more than me about the banjo, but i do follow with interest the advice on the Banjo Hangout regarding best beginner banjos, and the RK-35 always comes up in conversation.
Haven't played one myself, i was going to start of on a resonator, but i have a knackered back so the weight put me off. After getting an open back, i wouldn't change it for the world now.
Good luck.
Calv.

Hi calv - i am still considering the recording king the only thing that is a gripe is buying blind as it will come from Germany aswell as worrying it will get to me damaged? I'm gonna take a bit of a back seat for a while i think, not sure if i have rubbed one or two up the wrong way. Cheers bud Hi Phil, I can only echo what Martin says, he knows much more than me about the banjo, but i do follow with interest the advice on the Banjo Hangout regarding best beginner banjos, and the RK-35 always comes up in conversation. I'm gonna take a bit of a back seat for a while i think, not sure if i have rubbed one or two up the wrong way. If it's any comfort, I ordered two bass guitars and two amps from Germany, and they arrived here within a few days and damage free. The company also offers a really good returns service and has good warranties (typically 3 years on some stuff). Honest I don't work for them!! No need to take a back seat either, Phil - can't see any problems or issues from here

Hey Phil, cant for the life of me see why you have rubbed anyone up the wrong way. I have been following your search for a banjo keenly, as I have a slight craving for one myself and was interested to know how you got on. Don't hide away,
Robbie

We certainly don't need the back seats occupying Phil - we need to hear about your every move tracking down new instruments whether guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and yes, even banjos! Keith
