Does anyone have any opinions on good portal sites? (ie Soundcloud etc)
I'm looking for somewhere that hopefully will kick my ass into sorting some proper demos of songs I've written. (Acoustic/electric rock/pop type of thing)
I was on "Soundclick" a million years ago but that seems to be primarly techno/edm stuff. And looking at some albeit ancient reviews. it
doesn't appear to be the best place to be.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum! I have some old stuff on Soundclick too! But I also use Soundcloud, Bandcamp and Youtube. All are OK for putting stuff on - I tend to use Youtube for solo instrumental stuff that I tend to forget as soon as I've written and recorded it. Seeing my fingers helps my ears work it out again!
I use the sites to share music with like-minded folk and friends, esp here on the Forum, and have no interest in promoting or getting my stuff heard/seen by a wider audience, though it is often weird who the stuff reaches sometimes.
Would love to hear something of yours sometime!
Keith

Quite a few of us post on Soundcloud. This thread shows how widespread your music can be heard with Soundcloud: acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/10953/soundcloud-followersMore and more people don't seem to be able to listen to music without watching a video, so perhaps YouTube could be the answer. There are a number of big ones; they all work in different ways but they do accept the same file formats.
Soundcloud is very popular although I have to confess to not liking it that much even though I use it. The stats they provide for you are pretty suspect I think.
Drooble is one of the newest but has grown massively It is being developed as a collaborative portal, for example people ask for othtrs to write lyrics to their tunes and so on. Drooble 'radio' seems to be more effective way of sharing music than Soundcloud. Again, the stats are probably not reliable but it does seem your music gets mnore plays on here than any other. Drooble works on credits that you build up by commenting on posts and threads on all kinds of topics. In this sesne there is an incesntive for taking part in their 'community'.
Acoustic Guitar Forum has a popular Show and Tell forum. I find very little reactionto my music thre probably because it seems popilated by people ho want to share their latest Eagles cover. As with all US sites I find it a bit weird in that it is inhabited by obsessives.
Bandcamp allows you to publish your music to it but I think this is really for people who are putting up a polished and finished product.
One solution is to open free accounts with each of them. Print your song and upload it to all and then give it a few months to judge how each is working!
