I already have a guitar by Tom which he put together whilst still an apprentice with Ervin, it's an OM featuring a top made from Engelmann spruce and back and sides of fiddleback mahogany - very nice too ! Some time later Tom happened to mention that he'd come upon a few outstanding sets of The Tree, so we decided to lay a set aside for a future build... Well folks, the time has come around and things are in motion ! I have become very enamoured of 12 fret guitars with a cutaway and so we decided to go in that direction with this guitar. Tom has sourced some master grade Adirondack, which will form the top of this instrument. I'm guessing it's from the same stash as my Taran Tirga Mhor by Rory Dowling, in which case it will be outstanding. I've left Tom to handle much of the aesthetic... Tom recently sent me some images, so here goes : More, no doubt to follow during the next few weeks ! Cheers, Ian

I did build a guitar from The Tree once, this was back when it was affordable. It was the only mahogany classical I made and I think I paid about $600 for the set. Stew Mac currently has four sets still available on its site ranging from $3500 for a reasonable set to $6000 for a really nice set. Now I've bent more than 200 sides without a single failure, but I would have a few sleepless nights before bending a $6000 dollar set of sides!

Hi Ian (Robbie here, just signed up again!). That looks utterly amazing. Would love to come over some time as you have several new guitars since we last met up (especially the Astrand and the Taran). You you are well, take care 😊
