Keith makes a good point - spending money on a pick up for your Crafter may be a great solution. Something non-intrusive like a Fishman Rare Earth/Rare Earth Blend maybe - there'll be plenty of recommendations from others on pick up choice too I'm sure! Thanks, I think the pickup you mentioned is circa £150ish plus fitting costs... Am a bit concerned that should I move the guitar on eventually that it will not be worth a great deal and could be dead money to me.

Companies like Tanglewood and Freshman make some nice electro-acoustics in that price range. You also might find a Breedlove at the upper end of your budget. Keep in mind though that it's fairly easy to get a pickup fitted to an acoustic, so if you find a non-electro guitar that you like, the lack of a pickup shouldn't necessarily put you off. A decent guitar shop will probably be able to either fit a pickup for you or point you in the direction of someone who can do it. I recently bought a freshman electro acoustic second hand it was a 20th anniversary with a KOA top... Took it home after trying it, and then couldn't get on with it. Contacted the seller and he took it back and gave me my money back!!

The general advice would be to get out and play as many as you can but that’s not easy in these times. But that way you’d get an idea of what body size/shape you prefer. What exactly do you mean by solid? Solid wood as opposed to laminate? Assuming that I’d add another vote for Faith; great value for money all solid wood and well made. Yes am thinking all solid wood and no laminate, just from what I have researched. I have been advised to look at Faiths range, Eastman's and some low end Martin's and Taylor's

This might do you quite well. Or if you like smaller guitars have a look at the CSF3M - comes with a passive pickup so you won't need batteries. Also this one is new while the link above is on ebay. If you're prepared to go second hand there are quite a few nice possibilities on ebay but I appreciate that not everyone wants to chance it. I think because of my limited knowledge and me being a beginner I could possibly end up with a dud lol... As I said in a previous post I bought a used guitar and had to return it. I am definitely going new just like when I bought my crafter. I also think that having a pre amp means that I am not limited as I would be by a passive pickup... Excuse my ignorance if I am stating this wrong haha

Also, unless you intend to play to an audience you might find you don't use an amp or pick up much. If you're not planning to do that or you won't be doing it for a while you might be better off buying a better quality acoustic and adding a pickup (or playing to a mic) and amp later. I have set myself a long term goal to do a few sets at my local open mic night and/or my local pub for a few beers! I have even written my own lyrics to some songs, and am also keen to start looping and experimenting. I love the harmony that the helicon play acoustic gives me plus a few additional features like the body resonance and of course delay reverb and chorus. At first, the amp etc. Will be just for my personal gain and enjoyment at home, with a view to offending the ears of the masses (well.. my friends, family and a few villagers)!

Faith, Faith, Faith and Faith. That's if you want all solid. If you don't, the Martin X series are good. On balance I would go for a Faith. You budget fits the low to mid/high range. If I had £700 would go for this. www.pmtonline.co.uk/faith-venus-blood-moon-burst-acoustic-guitarOr I would go for one of the Martin X2 series. Jubbo Thanks, will take a butchers

If you're not too bothered about the pickup or if you're prepared to fit one yourself I have an Ibanez AC3000 for sale which I haven't got around to advertising. It's all solid spruce top and hog back and sides. You can hear some examples of it being played here. You can have it for £250 so a pick up and amp shouldn't be an issue. Message me if you want to talk about it, see some pictures, come and try it etc. Thanks will take a look and a listen

I heard a guitar shop owner say that when people bought online they tended to buy the Venus but when they went in the shop and tried before buying they tended to buy the Neptune. It's a bit bigger and has a fuller sound. I also heard this that online the Venus is the best selling, but the Neptune plays better and sounds better

I agree. Of the Faiths I've tried, the Neptune High Gloss is my favourite. Horses for courses; I preferred the Venus over the Neptune. Haha, good job we are all different, I did try a faith naked Venus (glad I got it the right way round haha) and I liked it but when I thought about it, it was open pore so wasn't keen on it getting mucky!

Blueridge have got a good reputation (although I've not played one). Apparently they're built and sound a lot like Martins. There are a few here in your range. The solid ones are the 140s and 143s and also I think there is a jumbo dread with solid maple back and sides - might be a 150 or 1500 or something. Anyway, if there is a Hobgoblin near you (they're all over the country) it might be worth a look. Click here to see the Hobgoblin Blueridge page. Edit: Not a real Hobgoblin, obv, although if there is one near you then do take a picture.

Faith have a wide, some might say bewildering, range of finishes. Apart from the open pore the rest are a gloss finish.

But that may just have been what was in stock at the time.

Highly unlikely to find a used Taylor with solid b/s for under £1k. Edit: I've had a look on ebay and there are a few Taylor 3 series guitars for under £1k including some with electrics but they are all more than £700 except in one case which is an auction in progress that hasn't reached its reserve price.
You could probably find a used Martin D15M for around £800. I sold one for £825 at the beginning of June but it didn't even have any strap buttons, never mind a pickup. It was in vgc and a lovely example (great colour, wood grain and incredible tone) and I could have got £900+ for it but I stopped the auction early and knocked some money off because I like the guy.
