The best British electric blues player of all time and one of my personal heroes. With Clapton, and Beck a graduate of John Mayall's Blues Breakers, the finishing school for blues guitarists. B.B. King said of Green that he was the only white blues guitarist that gave him goose bumps. His cut back style where every note meant something, was a great contrast to the more 'look how good I am' players that many seemed to celebrate. I saw him play many times with the Bluesbreakers, and early FM, but last saw him in his renaissance with his final outfit the Splinter Group at the Brighton Dome, when John Mayall did the first half and the Splinter Group played the second. Best gig I had been to in many years.
The trouble with growing old is that you tend to outlive your heroes.
Colin

Love his playing. Economical but passionate. Sadly missed.

Great player; didn't just play the notes, but also the spaces. RIP.

He really could make the guitar sing, at his peak had such a soulful voice and lyrically appealed to my melancholic nature. Sadly gone but left behind a priceless legacy. RIP

The sweetest tone from an electric guitar I've ever heard and a master of note choice. So adept at phrasing and bringing out feeling from just a few notes, and with a vocal skill that was right up there with his guitar playing. Also, lets not forget, a composer of some great pieces of music.
If anyone was my electric guitar hero when I played electric it was Peter. Such very sad news. RIP.
I'll just sign off with a video of him filling in with a solo "World Keeps Turning" when Danny Kirwan had broken a string. Pure emotion.

Been a fair few tributes to Peter Green this weekend, but I've never seen that video before. One of the very greatest in my opinion - amazing vibrato and proper feel for what he was doing. Went to see him with the Splinter Group a good few years ago and it was frustrating to see someone of his talent almost taking second stage to Nigel Watson (apparently at PG's request). There were flashes of brilliance, but it was generally very subdued. Too young to have seen them in their heyday, but he was always been the electric guitarist I aspired to (sorry Eric / Dave / Mike / Bill etc..).
RIP

A true virtuoso in his day. I had the good fortune to see Fleetwood Mac supporting B.B. King in Manchester when King brought Green onto the stage for a âduetâ A really magical musical moment

I remember those singles. I had a relative's single of Man of the World that I played a lot in the days when I had about three records and all I knew about music was from listening to Radio 1. I remember hearing Green Manalishi and Oh Well - to my ears they were like nothing else and I think prompted the question 'where did that come from?' Later on I heard an album track 'Love that Burns' and the guitar got through. Peter Green's playing could do that. I would think there's a lot warm feelings out there at the moment.

Oh well I remember putting a Peter Green reference (ie I nicked a bit of his) into a trad tune Cuir I Glun Air A Bhodach when recording it with a fiddler friend about 15ish years ago. Not too hard to spot, but here you go - app.box.com/s/6i2x1lt84pv40bmottmsfw9a4aeydahxKeith
