Thank you all for your input and advice. I received an email today stating the supplier wants it back to inspect. They do not however have a replacement as there is no stock for the foreseeable. They did ask the ship that I bought it from to ask me if I had tightened the bolts on the new dove tail patent imminent on the neck. I would never change string slept alone try to do something that is only meant to be done by authorised shops by Martin. I shall be returning the guitar sadly and making the decision about whether to wait for new stock which could be months and months or ask for my money back. I did see on another forum (D18 forum) I think, that someone else had a problem with the same crack. They stated that the shipping of the guitar in only the padded gig bag was not good enough, as it still could be damaged and the instrument put under stress. I am gutted as really liked it, but am upset that this has occured, and upset to think that the supplier may think I have adjusted it, when I haven't! Sorry for your hassle, but the supplier would need to prove you’ve done something to adjust it, which they won’t be able to do. photograph it very well before you take it back, just in case

Definitely send it back. If others have had the same issue it’s clearly a major problem that needs sorting out.

Larrivee L dude (or D if you want a dreadnought). An 02 or an 03 will do you right.
You can't go wrong with one of those. They're awesome build quality.
And the sound will take you by the heart and lead you to acoustic heaven.
Trust.
Edit: The L neck is 1 3/4 in and the D is 1 11/16. If that's important to you (it's a millimetre or two) then take note.

I would send it back and just get my money back. Did you order it unseen? Online? If you did, it is always a gamble and i never would spend large amounts without checking it out. Send it back and buy my Lowden. It hasn't any cracks in it. I however have lots of cracks and you wouldn't want to buy me.

Also look at Yamaha FGX3 and FGX5 or LL/LJ 16 or if you feel like stretching your budget to £1695 the Yamaha LL26 (dreadnought) or LJ26 (Grand Auditorium).
FGs are hog back and sides, LL / LJ are rosewood.

How about another Martin? My experience is limited but I think you get better build quality and materials at that price from Larrivee and Yamaha. I think the Martin D15M (never played any of the other 15s but I'm told they're all very nice) is a lovely guitar and if you like all mahogany it's hard to resist - but I'm not sure it's what the OP is looking for.

thanks for all your input, I have managed to secure another Martin Sc13-E with the original shop I bought this one from. I am going tomorrow to potentially swap it over.

I didn't buy it online I was the only one to play it over quite a few visits... We will see what the replacement is like, failing that I will get my 1600 quid back and look at some of the suggestions on here.... The Cort OC6 Gold looked a bargain at 700!!!

That sucks. I had the same thing happen once on a Gibson guitar and returned it straight away for a refund. Strangely I always kinda regretted that, because it was a killer guitar and the shop was gonna have it repaired by a luthier and then I'd get a discount, but I stood by my decision and think you should do the same.
Get a refund and take a look at the used D-18 in the classifieds here. That's what I'd do!

Hi all, so today I took back the cracked SC13-E and picked up my replacement. The spruce top is so much darker than the original but the KOA veneer back and sides is lighter.... And I don't have a bear claw scrape in the wood like the original lol.
If I get chance I will post some pictures of my new one against the old one....
