I'm just starting to play with mock-ups for a J45. I've half (less than half really) decided on the woods. Internals will match Michael's as will scale length etc... There are 3 sets of B&S I could use: Cherry, Wenge and Flame Jarrah. The cherry and the wenge look quite boring compared to the jarrah but I feel the jarrah may be OTT for a J45. I'll give all 3 sets a light sanding to get a better idea.
So initial mock-up, things will change especially the rosette...

Four back plates:  Each has been given a very light sanding any patchiness should be ignored, it's just where I didn't want to remove too much material at this stage on all the woods. |

Linings are now fitted the sides have been profiled on front and back edges and stiffener stripes have been added tyo the sides. Neck block is next up.   |

Sorry folks been a while since I last did anything on the J45. So started work on the tail piece. It's a piece of walnut previously used as a test stick for finishes - but it's about the right size so it kindly donated itself...   The inlay pieces are pear veneer. Currently just pushed into their slots but before I start bending and inserting the outer pieces I'll add a dab of super glue to each to keep them in place. Then the whole area will be superglued before sanding back the excess. |
