Phil, try Guitarnotes: www.spanishguitar.com/Search_Results/ for the scores and then perhap the album is downloadable on Amazon. kjm, perhaps have a look at Noad's "Solo Guitar Playing" for starting to sight read, it is very good and takes you note by note and before you know it you're able to read all the notes in the first position, which should be enough for grade one, good luck. Hi Phil snap ! I also have started using guitarists way vol 1 and it does break things into break things down in easy steps in regard of sight reading. I,m on my third lesson so have not decided on any pieces as of yet and yes I do intend to take exam, I have taken some RGT exams (electric guitar) in past and find they are a good way of focusing your practice.
Jonny I have also bought Solo guitar book and yes it does help also with getting to grips with sight reading.

How.was the.rgt exams.kjm? I am also learning acoustic guitar using the rgt grade books , although i can do grade 1 and 2 i need to brush up on a few chord changes but am starting.the.grade 3 book shortly. I have really.enjoyed them especially the fingerstyle exercises, very simple but effective i think. The one thing i have to speak with my teacher about though is i ain't sure he is fussed for.teaching.acoustic as he is classically trained and get the.impression sometimes he prefers to just teach classical? With the grade pieces i don't know the tune itself when i hear it which can be a disadvantage when learning for beginners like us as you may not be sure on the tempo or feel.to.the.song inc the.dynamics. But on YouTube i found a couple of people who can play the.stuff.we.are learning well so at least you.can hear where.your.going.wrong. Look.for Janeguitarqueen and.sorefingers. I think.they are both.teachers and its helped me out into now inc the guitarist way books Hi Phil snap ! Phil, I think the RGT Acoustic pieces get really interesting at grade 3, harmonies etc. How did you find the pieces you played at grades 1 & 2 in comparison with the classical pieces you are playing? Do you have the CDs for the RGT books? That would help if you're not sure about timing etc.
It's so great to see you're so inspired by the guitar and feel you're moving in the right direction.

Hi jonny - at first with he fingerstyle studies i pulled my hair out with them, especially grade 2, i just couldn't do them. But i practiced more with the rythm studies to get my chord changes better which resulted in progression with the.fingerstyle, they went hand it hand really. The pieces at the end of the book are ok but don't set the world on fire and i have only done the odd one at present from grade one and two. I do like londenderry air (better known as 'Danny Boy') and there are some lovely versions of it on YouTube which i hope to do one day in the future. Rather than just playing the tune using single notes people use strums and other styles to really bring the song to life. I think your right jonny, from grade 3 it will start to get interesting in terms of some of the pieces starting to sound more complex like proper guitar music and look forward to the.challenge. The piece double thumb special (grade 3) i have listened to and it sounds pretty cool The books i have do contain the cd so it helps a lot aswell as watching them being played on YouTube also helps too Phil, I think the RGT Acoustic pieces get really interesting at grade 3, harmonies etc. How did you find the pieces you played at grades 1 & 2 in comparison with the classical pieces you are playing? Got artistry by Martin Taylor cd through today via a.seller on amazon. Cheeky blighters charged me just over 5 quid but they forgot to take the oxfam label off which cost them 2 quid. Now i know how some sellers make their money, didn't even know oxfam sold cds.
