Fed-up with all those mandolins? Well, here’s something completely different! For quite a while I’ve fancied doing a restoration project and kept looking on eBay for something suitable. Well, the other week I saw, bid and won this Guyatone LG50 guitar.  So, as far as I can tell this wonderful old guitar was made in Japan around about the late 1950s-early 60s. Here’s a video to introduce the project. The brass badge on the tailpiece sold it to me! Note the endearing spelling  Cheers Gary |

garynavaIf you didn't already know, MojoPickups makes repros of LG50 pickups. www.mojopickups.co.uk/product/lg-50/I have played a number of his models of the more well known pickups eg P90's, HB's, Tele, and also have some repros of some lesser known models Speedbumps, which have all been superb. Good luck with your restoration!

The Guyatone project is progressing well. In the latest video, you can see how the carbon-fibre reinforcement strips were fitted in to the neck. Also I've got some new tuners and other bits.

In this instalment, I start the initial stages of the construction of my LG50 replica. However, wood being a natural material, means that sometimes things don’t go to plan…………….
