I'm not a big lover of Bach but this is guitar heaven! When it comes to guitar I love the sound of nylon strings!

No, I'm not a big lover of Bach either, much preferring the Spanish composers, but I did record a number of bits of Bach (my teacher made me!) I also did a version of the BWV 1004. From the players point of view it only gets interesting at about 2:30. app.box.com/s/ky0kc907t01fos8ea44do56oaqsmmsx5Chaconne, Partita No2 for Violin BWV1004

I'm a huge fan of Bach - from a guitarist's point of view I keep coming back to Julian Bream's Bach recordings. But I've tried to play one or two of the Partitas on the violin and even though I was a long way off mastering any of them, just struggling through getting half way there taught me so much about music and improved my violin playing a millionfold.
The Chaconne is in my opinion one the greatest pieces of music ever composed. Here's Isabelle Faust's violin recording of it which is the best I've yet heard. Faust's Bach recordings are for me the closest thing to Gould's piano recordings in really bringing out the form, the ebbs and flows, the heads and the tails...

I just can't play guitar. I tried to play the exercises in The Guitarist's Way book 1 but I got frustrated and felt like throwing the bloody thing out the wimdow!

I like Hilary Hahn's work on this as well.

A masterpiece- compositionaly and mathematically perfect. The key change from minor to Major conforms to the principle of the golden mean or golden ratio Robbie

Great recording and playing colins. Hope you don't mind me asking of the sound recording, "Is the reverb natural or added to the sound file?" Thanks Dale

Great recording and playing colins . Hope you don't mind me asking of the sound recording, "Is the reverb natural or added to the sound file?" Thanks Dale We never added any reverb or other effects. We recorded a lot in an old church near us, so this is I believe one of those recordings, (it was some time ago!)

A masterpiece- compositionaly and mathematically perfect. The key change from minor to Major conforms to the principle of the golden mean or golden ratio Robbie That's my problem with Bach, it's interesting to play, and can be very challenging so as an exercise it can be enjoyable. However, to me it just doesn't have the soul or heart that the great Spanish and South American composers bring to their music. I like to imagine the warm Andalusian sun on my back when I play. I spent my whole working life as a physicist and mathematician, so I want pure emotion when it comes to music.

We recorded a lot in an old church near us, so this is I believe one of those recordings, (it was some time ago!) As I thought, I love the tone of the guitar and the whole sound. I have to admit that whenever I play nylon string, the tone is always lacking body. Again, looking forward to hearing more of the recordings. Thanks for posting and for replying. Dale
